Auspicious Beginnings
celebrating Makar Sankranthi

The master key that unlocks the secret to abiding by ALL your new year resolutions is simple. There is only one thing you need to resolve to do. During an ayurvedic consult session one day, a client asked: “what’s the best way of adopting new healthy habits and letting go of bad ones?
Vaidya said: “When you are tempted into a wrong action, don’t try to control yourself or denie yourself. Just delay it. Later today or tomorrow. And then again. Tomorrow. And tomorrow never comes as my father always reminded me!” And he laughed. “Always postpone bad habits,” he continued. “In contrast, never delay a good one. No matter what you are deciding to do, and you know it is good for you, make time for it DAILY, even if it is just 5 minutes. Start your day with it. Perhaps you want to get back into exercising? Start with 5 minutes of stretches in the morning. You want do meditate? start with 5 minutes in the morning. You want change your diet? Change what you are eating first thing in the morning. Etc. Whatever you want to do, make sure you do it daily even if for only 5 minutes. The cumulative effect is powerful. And when you start by doing something you know is good for you, it gives your heart such shakti/strenght and keeps you in the positive direction the rest of the day, and the next day and the next…” Take a resolve now as today is a very auspicious day.
Every year, on the 14th of January, India celebrates “Makar Sankranthi,” as per the Vedic calendar. This day marks the transition of the sun into the zodiacal sign of Makara (Capricorn). Makara Sankranthi, as a solar event, is conflated with the Winter Solstice when the sun ends its southward journey (in Sanskrit: Dakshinayana) at the Tropic of Capricorn, and starts moving northward (Sanskrit: Uttarayaana) towards the Tropic of Cancer.
This holiday is marked in the ancient epic text, such as the Mahabharata. It is a festival commemorating the Sun God, and thus holds an even more special significance in the SVA lineage of Magg Brahmins. The transition of the sun from the southern to the northern hemisphere, in SVA terms, is an occasion of great joy, as it marks a more nurturing phase of the sun’s relationship to the earth and our human bodies: when the sun is in the southern hemisphere, it is more detoxifying, while when it moves to the northern hemisphere, it becomes more nourishing and nurturing.
This is a good day to initiate new ventures, start new projects. Sankranti is celebrated all over India with some regional variations. It is customary to make sesame and sandalwood paste and apply all over the body. Taking a dip in the Ganges River, or any other sacred body of water, is also considered very auspicious and karmically cleansing.
May we suggest doing a little puja/ritual. It does not have to be anything formal – it could consist of just lighting a candle, placing some fresh flowers, and setting an intention. The Blissful Awakening atomizer that Vaidya made contains Sandalwood amongst other sacred herbs and spices, and can be a perfect addition to your ritual. Read more about it below.

Blissful Awakening(s) Facial Mist
Divine Herbs to Refresh, Uplift and Shield!

Blissful Awakening is a facial mist that can be used any time of day not only to instantly refresh your face, but also clear the mind and uplift the heart. How? It’s a synergistic blend of 21 herbs and spices artfully combined to restore prana and soma and help cool and nourish the skin. It also helps delay biological, chronological, and psychological aging.
Neutralize EMF Vibrational Pollution
This facial mist can also be used as part of your SVA EMF (electro-magnetic field) management protocol. It contains several drops of pure chandanam (sandalwood oil). Sandalwood is highly somagenic thus cooling and grounding. Spraying this mist on your face while using your computer to help absorb and negate the ‘buzzy’ corrupt marut (etheric energy). The sacred herbs and spices in this formula will thus prevent synthetic pranic EMF energy from disturbing your nadis (vibrational channels). To cleanse the environment around your work space, use the SVA Vayu Shudhi air-freshener.
