Have you heard of Moringa? Also known as Moringa oleifera? Moringa is a fast-growing drought-resistant tree native to the Indian subcontinent. In India, it is also known as drumstick tree. In Sanskrit, it is called “shigru.” Its leaves and fruit – drumstick – are edible, but the Moringa tree is key for our health, specially during seasonal detox. Even modern science now confirms that Moringa can help: 

  • Regulate Blood Sugar Levels
  • Enhance Digestive Health
  • Purify/detoxify blood
  • Boost immunity
  • Facilitate stronger bone development …
  • Help prevent Respiratory Diseases
  • Boost female sexual health

But that’s not all! Moringa carries: 

  • 7 times more Vit C than an orange
  • 3 times more potassium than a banana
  • 3 times the amount of iron found in almonds
  • 25 times more iron than in spinach
  • 4 times more calcium than in milk
  • 2 times more protein than in milk

And if this is still not enough to wow you, it has

  • 47 different antioxidants

The greater potency of vitamin C and potassium, along with calcium, protein, iron, and amino acids, help your body heal and build muscle. It’s also packed with antioxidants, substances that can protect cells from damage and boost your immune system.

This is why Vaidya Mishra dubbed Moringa “a divine plant.” You can understand why they are divine gifts of Mother Nature – they carry a perfect combination of balancing and rejuvenative properties. Not only do the ancient ayurvedic texts recommend Moringa, but the scientific community keeps publishing papers that attest to the incredible nutritional, therapeutic and prophylactic properties of this ancient divine plant. 

Moringa thrives where other plants and ingredients fail. Although the plant’s many parts are used – leaves, flowers, seeds, fruit and even bark – in the Vedic tradition, the leaves and the fruit are particularly favored in cooking, for daily nourishment and detoxification, alone or with some lentils (mung or masoor preferably). SVA recommends using it daily for nourishment and detoxification because it is very effective in ridding the bone tissue of accumulated toxic waste. Since it targets the bone tissue, it is then also good for the blood and fat tissue – toxins travel through the blood, the muscle and then the fat before reaching the bone as one is built on the other. As a side-benefit, moringa also supports the detoxification of the liver.

There are also additional benefits to consuming Moringa on a regular basis:

  • It is great for eyes, skin – it detoxifies the skin and nourishes the eyes
  • It can help lower cholesterol since it supports the liver and purifies the fat tissue
  •  It can help with joint pain resulting from the local accumulation of toxins because its primary action is to detoxify tissues, particularly the fat tissue
  • Long-term use supports our immune system. 

It is tridoshic – balancing for vata, pitta, and kapha – however, if you are a high pitta body type, make sure to always cook it with a pitta pacifying masala. Alternately, you can use the SVA Moringa Soup Mix which has been formulated to be balancing for all three doshas.

Before relenting to this path, I decided to give Ayurveda a try, hoping to get to the root cause of all my health issues and challenges.

In less than 30 days, I experienced improvement in every health issue, all through sustainable Diet, Self-Care and Lifestyle practices. Not only did Ayurveda get to the root cause of my health issues, it helped me begin unveiling my true self.

By 2011, I started making a complete career change from Accounting and IT to Ayurveda. My ongoing journey of self enlightenment through my Ayurveda practices provided a message loud and clear – You must share your knowledge and wisdom.

Today, I offer Ayurveda bodywork, Ayurvedic and Functional Medicine wellness coaching, panchakarma (Ayurveda purification), retreats and workshops. My focus is to create personalized mind, body and spirit aligning experiences that Enlighten the Wellness Within YOU.

A common thread through all of my knowledge, practice and inner wisdom is strongly aligned with the 5,000+ year old Ayurveda lineage of Shaka Vansiya Ayurveda, brought to the U.S. by Vaidya Rama Kant Mishra, a Pulse and Marma master.
