Our Customer Service Center will be closed on Monday September 5, 2022 in observance of Labor Day Weekend. We resume regular hours Tuesday Morning 8:30am PST.

It’s hot outside… and inside too! So much so that distending your belly with watermelon slices, or eating dollops of ice-cream in air-conditioned rooms not only doesn’t help but it only makes things worse. You’ll go from feeling hot and bothered to creating raging fires and thundering volcanoes within – in your blood, stomach, liver, mind and heart! Putting out agni and aggravating pitta… IT’S ALL CONNECTED as you know… The food/mood thing…. Gratefully, Vaidya Mishra taught us so many delightful floral and herbal recipes to coooooool things off from the inside-out. Here are just a couple of them. BEST PART? You don’t even need to do a thing, just add a few drops to your glass of water, stir, sit back, and experience waves of cool bliss reset your whole being… life CAN BE cool and beautiful again with SV Ayurveda…. Have a blissful long weekend – namaste!

Ayurveda for our Furry Friends

Dear SVA community: here is a question we received from one of our readers, and we are putting it out there for any/all who might know of ayurvedic healers for our furry friends – small and big.

“Hello!

I am a current patient of Dr. Teitelbaum and buy all of your Ayurvedic supplies… We are so thankful for Vaidya Mishra and his work!!!!! I am reaching out to ask if you know of any Ayurvedic Veterinary practitioners in the USA that have knowledge of horses? We have come to deeply trust and believe Ayurveda for our personal health, and are desperate to find counsel for the health of our horses. We are a Rocky Mountain breeding farm in KY. I know this is an unusual question, but I am hoping you have a connection! Thanks and Blessings, Reisha”

I created Ayurveda Amritanam Learning Center to share a wealth of knowledge that I gained during my time learning from my dear friend and teacher, Ayurvedic physician, the late Vaidya Ramakant Mishra who was a master herbalist and formulator, healer, and founder of Chandika Herbal Synergies.

My experience showed me that the study and practice of Ayurveda can help anchor you through unfamiliar territory in life and keep your heart nurtured in uncertain times. The design of my course through weekly classes for nine months will give birth to not only knowledge of an ancient healing tradition of medicine but a potent tool for personal growth. Ayurveda connects you to your very own source of non-changing silent consciousness which forms the basis of good physical and mental health. If you are yearning for a program not just for intellectual knowledge but desire personal transformation and interconnectedness, then this program is for you. If you are an empath, that desires skills to help others while healing yourself, then consider this opportunity either as a structured class or self paced personal study guided by an experienced teacher and practitioner.

Our Foundational Course:  Ayurveda Amritanam’s curriculum is a foundational course as well as a course for those already familiar with Ayurveda but want to deepen their knowledge and experience with an option to audit. It’s also for those who simply want better health and spiritual growth. It’s for counselors, coaches, busy mothers, massage therapists, coaches, teachers, yoga enthusiasts, or anyone wanting to offer simple and effective tools to aid their self, family member or client’s progress and evolution.

Ayurveda Health Coach Certificate: After the 9-month study and required practicum, you will receive a certificate of completion as an Ayurveda Health Coach. This will give you the knowledge to understand unique mind/body types, educate others in nutrition and lifestyle and support others with sleep problems, inflammatory conditions, emotional balance, digestive and elimination problems, weight balance, protection from colds and flu, skin issues, stress reduction, as well as learn to apply over 25 Ayurvedic herbal formulas.  For more information please email me at rose.carol.zivin@gmail.com or text/call 847 636 2744. Please ask me for a more detailed week by week curriculum. The month by month general curriculum can be found at www.ayurvedalearningcenter.com

REPLAY OF EMF VS PRANA COURSE

What a fabulous session we had yesterday, filled with so much knowledge, empowering us against this overwhelming modern health phenomenon – EMF toxicity. The good news is there is SO MUCH we can do, through Vaidya Mishra’s SVA teachings, as well as through all the information Henry Eckstein shared with us. Understanding the ayurvedic fundamentals of what EMF is, is the first most important step to be able to address it; however, having a strong handle on all the recent measuring devices, as well as the different categories of radiation and frequencies that we need to address is also so crucial. We thank Henry Eckstein for generously sharing his knowledge and expertise with us. Here again are some important details and ways you can reach him if you want to assess your home or workspace:

  1. Website: https://www.HealthyIndoorConsultants.com
  2. His email: Henry@HealthyIndoorConsultants.com
  3. Business phone: (303) 306-8793

…depression…

in ayurvedic terms

Depression affects 1 in 15 adults in any given year. And one in six people will experience depression at some time in their life. Depression can occur at any time, but on average it first appears during the late teens to the mid-20’s. Women are more likely than men to experience depression and about one-third of women will experience a major depressive episode in their lifetime. Symptoms of depression can vary from mild to severe and can include: feeling sad or having a depressed mood, loss of interest in activities once enjoyed, changes in appetite including weight loss or gain, trouble sleeping or sleeping too much, loss of energy, feeling worthless or guilty, difficulty concentrating or making decisions, thoughts of death or suicide.

It has been said that genetics may play a role, and while this may be true for all diseases and not just with depression, the real truth is that the genes we’ve inherited are actually lying dormant, but they need some triggers which we create through mistakes in diet and daily routine in order for them to wake up and allow them to manifest. So as with all diseases that we see, always remember that the underlying causes need to be addressed, and these underlying causes are usually numerous and different in each person. It’s always important to identify the mistakes you might be making which are causing your sleeping genes to wake up and start expressing themselves. This is especially true for depression.

Many of the common treatments for depression revolve around modifying one’s brain chemistry. Selective serotonin re-uptake inhibitors (SSRIs) are usually the first choice of medication for treating depression. They work by slowing up the reabsorption of the neurotransmitter serotonin, a chemical which helps regulate mood and anxiety. This way the serotonin can remain in the blood stream longer, easing up the depression. It is important to know that there are numerous other medications besides the SSRIs to help alleviate symptoms of depression. These medications could be life-saving if you or your loved one is threatening suicide. But we should also take a look at the underlying causes of depression and learn how to address them so that we can either prevent the depression from coming in the first place, or if you are already on an anti-depressant, perhaps over time, with the help of your doctor, you could slowly wean off it.

As with everything else we treat in Ayurveda we always want to trace any and all imbalances first to improper digestion. Here’s the way it works: once you swallow food and it goes through the digestive tract, it has to be broken down into smaller and smaller particles until it then enters the bloodstream. From there the food spends 3-5 days in each tissue before moving on to the next tissue until all 7 tissues are nourished. The tissues are blood plasma, blood, muscle, fat, bone, bone marrow and reproductive fluids. Now this is very important: at the end of the 7th tissue you then make a compound called Ojas. Ojas is the neurotransmitters and the hormones and gives you great stamina, strength and immunity to disease. Keep this in mind: your neurotransmitters and hormones dictate the way you feel, if you are happy or depressed, lethargic or energetic, hyper or calm. So, in order to have good Ojas or balanced hormones and neurotransmitters, first your digestion of food must be complete and the food itself must be nourishing, wholesome and freshly prepared.

Many of the teenagers I see have poor digestion due to the high amounts of pharmaceuticals they are given from the time they are born. This is because the vaccines and antibiotics they take destroy the friendly bacteria in the gut and make the liver very hot, reactive and toxic.

And to make matters worse, the diets of our children are quite deficient, especially if the child turns towards processed foods.

And to add insult to injury, the friendly bacteria in the gut make 90% of the neurotransmitters that the brain needs to function properly. No wonder so many of our teenagers are depressed! Between their poor gut microbiome, combined with their inadequate diets.

As just stated, when there are too many hot chemical toxins circulating through the liver it overheats the liver, which in turn makes you angry. Just ask any woman who suffers from PMS — the liver overheats right before the menstrual cycle is due, which is what makes them so angry during that time. Then once the menstrual cycle is over and the liver cools down, the emotions also cool back down to normal. As a result, many of the kids we see today are walking around with hot angry livers — no wonder they are angry and can’t control their emotions.

Then on top of all this, if the child goes to bed late — many other imbalances begin. Going to bed past 10:00 PM makes the liver even hotter and it weakens the endocrine glands — the system of glands that make hormones, such as the thyroid, the adrenals and the ovaries or testes. These glands are very delicately balanced and they need the hours of rest before midnight to rejuvenate them. The ancient doctors of India said that it is a fundamental law of nature that human beings should be asleep when the sun goes down and awake before or as the sun comes up. Breaking this very basic law exhausts the glands, you feel tired, lethargic and depressed the next day as the glands are now struggling to make their happy hormones.

In fact, walking outside as the sun comes up helps to establish one’s circadian rhythms. This allows us to get sleepy at night as more melatonin is automatically released once the sunlight enters the pupils early in the morning. And just being in the sunlight increases serotonin by 800%!!! Serotonin is what the SSRI’s are trying to keep in circulation. Just getting out in the sun everyday will help this…and without the toxicity and the side effects of the SSRI’s.

Remember the old adage: early to bed, early to rise, makes a man healthy, wealthy and wise. So many of our patients feel so much better once they fix their digestion, go to bed by 10:00 pm, eat a wholesome, healthy diet and get out in the early morning sun everyday.

Many of our patients are vegetarian and do not consume any milk or milk products. The ancient doctors of India stated that you need some animal protein every day in your diet. So if you are a vegetarian then your animal protein would come from milk and milk products.

But if there are no milk products in your diet you run the risk of losing your stores of Vitamin B12 which could also cause depression.

And don’t forget: your adrenal and sex hormones are made out of cholesterol and cholesterol comes from an animal. And your thyroid gland makes its hormones out of animal protein as well. So if there are no milk products in the diet there won’t be enough raw materials to make these hormones, which could potentially result in depression. So many of our patients who present with depression have a weakness in the thyroid and adrenals since the hormones produced by these glands make us feel very upbeat and enthusiastic about life.

Many people are giving up animal milk, such as cow’s or goat’s milk in favor of plant-based milks. While this might be OK if you are allergic to these animal’s milks, you might be interested to know that animal milk is the only food which can make Ojas the same day it is taken, in fact almost immediately when it is consumed. Any other food you can think of takes about a month to make Ojas as it slowly makes its way through each of the 7 tissues.

Always keep up your stores of Ojas. It gets depleted with over-exercise, over-work, burning the candle at both ends, stress, too much sexual activity, too much bleeding or diarrhea, lack of absorption of nutrients and a deficient diet.

So if you keep overworking without rejuvenating your body with proper rest you’ll run the risk of depleting your Ojas and weakening your endocrine glands, which could ultimately result in depression. If you have to work long hours during the week try to spend one whole day on the weekend just resting, eating healthy foods, sitting in the sun, taking naps and allowing your body to rejuvenate and reinvigorate itself after pushing it so hard all week.

But here’s the good news: we have a huge arsenal of herbs in Ayurveda which can strengthen the weak endocrine glands, remedies to restore the friendly bacteria in the gut, and many herbs to cool down the heat in the liver. We also have a wide variety of antidepressant herbs which have been used for thousands of years before the use of the pharmaceutical SSRI’s. We even have herbal formulas to build up your Ojas!

So hopefully by following these guidelines you or your loved ones will never have to suffer depression which can decrease your quality of life tremendously.

Thank you,

Dr. Marianne Teitelbaum

3 Best-Selling Unique Ayurvedic Remedies for Cool Lustrous Eyes

Is it already “back-to-school”? Is Summer already over?! Culturally we are already gearing up for cold weather. But seasonally, Mother Nature is is only just reaching her Summer peak – soaring temperatures, dryness, and beautiful luminous summer evenings are still here for several more weeks. You will find yourself still craving more sweet, more cold, more juicy treats and meals to beat the heat and stay hydrated. In SVA terms, when the Summer season heightens before giving way to Autumn, the increased and accumulated heat in the environment and our bodies maintains our channels wide open and our physiology gets to release a lot of toxins. Many times these toxins themselves are "hot" in nature, and may get lodged in any area, further drying and aggraving pitta. The eyes are governed by Pitta subdosha (alochak pitta), and you may have experienced that your vision gets a little tired or even blurry during hotter days. Or you experience dryness or itchiness. While rinsing your face and eyes with cool water can really help, you may find you need more. Much more! Experience immediate coolness with Vaidya's eyedrops. You can use them as many times as you need during the day or night.

Love the eyedrops but still need more? Try Vaidya's Triphala ghee (with rosa centifolia). It will soothe, detox, cool off and replenish. It's an eye cream the way Mother Nature intented it. Use anytime of day or night. Wipe off or keep on.

Your eyes still feel inflamed, hot, tired? Try the ALA lotion – perfect for addressing long-term inflammation. Apply on the orb of the eyes and the temples and gently massage in . Do it mornings after washing your face and eyes for sustained effect during the day. At night cap off with Triphala ghee. And a couple of Soma Netra drops. Your eyes will love you for it!

Treating

Uterine Fibroids

by Understanding the underlying causes

with

      Dr Marianne Teitelbaum

Uterine fibroids are noncancerous growths of the uterus that often appear during the childbearing years. They’re not associated with an increased uterine cancer risk and almost never turn into cancer. They range in size from barely perceptible to the human eye to very large masses that can distort and enlarge the uterus. Many women have uterine fibroids sometime during their lives but luckily they don’t usually cause symptoms. However, in some women they might cause heavy menstrual bleeding, menstrual periods lasting more than a week, pelvic pain or pressure, frequent urination, difficulty emptying the bladder, constipation and back or leg pains.

Many women seek out Ayurvedic care for their fibroids. As with all the health problems we treat, we must first get to the root of the problem. And as usual, the root causes are usually more than one and they are different in each patient. But I’ll attempt to show you how we address the problem.

First, I always teach our patients how to think about their health problem using perspective on their condition, always leading back to the root cause.

Here is an example of how I do this, using fibroids as a good example.

First, we have to learn how to retrace our steps backwards as I tell the patient. For example, we first want to see what is causing the fibroid. Well, we know that it comes from an imbalance where the estrogen is high and the progesterone is low. So what would cause that to happen?

Well, the gall bladder! And yes, this is how it usually goes: the root of the problem is usually far removed from where the symptoms are occurring. The way it works is that the liver breaks down the estrogen everyday and dumps it into the bile to be then dumped into the bowel for removal from the body through the bowel movement. Our bodies are smart to get rid of estrogen everyday because while estrogen may cause growth, such as growth of the breasts and hips in puberty, we don’t want too much estrogen hanging around causing too much growth, such as a fibroid tumor.

So now that we know it is coming from the gall bladder, we next have to think of all the reasons why the bile is not flowing out of the gall bladder the way it should. It should be a liquid but at times it becomes thick like a sludge. And when it becomes sludge-like, kind of like a toothpaste, it can’t flow out of the gall bladder too well. Then the estrogen that’s just sitting and stagnating in the gall bladder reabsorbs back into the blood stream resulting in a situation of high estrogen/low progesterone.

Unique ayurvedic hormonal modulators for her and for him

So next we have to think of all the things that might have caused the bile to become thick: it could be if the person is drinking ice cold beverages or eating iced cold foods such as ice cream or frozen yogurt. The cold congeals the fats which are sitting in the bile. Remember, all the fats you eat in the diet have to go to the gall bladder to be emulsified into tiny globules to be absorbed into the bloodstream.

So if this is the case then the person has to stop doing that in order to thin out the bile again. We have numerous foods, herbs and spices which can also thin the bile.

Some people have bile sludge because their thyroid gland is weak. I wrote a whole chapter on this in my book called Healing the Thyroid With Ayurveda. So then one needs to see what is weakening the thyroid gland: the fluoride in the drinking water, the mercury in the flu shots, going to bed late, or eating a diet low in animal protein: don’t forget, the thyroid hormone is made from animal protein. Birth control pills can also depress thyroid function. And rushing and multitasking through the day REALLY weakens the thyroid gland.

In this case we must need to make sure the person stops doing all those things and then work on strengthening the thyroid gland again using various herbal formulas.

Sometimes the patient is in a state of fight or flight, which we call high Vata in Ayurveda, which stops the digestive tract from functioning properly, causing the gall bladder to become weak. So in this case we need to teach them how to get out of fight or flight or how to lower the Vata, by meditation, rest, going to bed early, resisting the temptation to multitask and rush through the day to allow their digestive tracts and gall bladder in particular to work properly again.

And too much stress contributes to the release of cortisol from the adrenal glands, which in the long run depletes progesterone, again resulting in a high estrogen/low progesterone ratio which leads to the formation of fibroids.

Once we have figured out all the specific imbalances going on in that particular patient we next have to give the herbs to prevent the release of cortisol when under stress and also herbs to recalibrate the ratio between estrogen and progesterone.

We then give the herbs to help prevent and shrink the fibroid. Notice that we give the herbs to shrink the fibroid as the last thing we do. We don’t want to make the mistake to just resort to those herbs without addressing all the underlying root causes which are feeding the growth of the fibroids in the first place. This is why the ancient doctors of Ayurveda said before any prescription is written, you have to first identify what that patient is doing wrong and tell them to stop doing it, otherwise the herbs won’t be able to be as effective in treating the problem.

Sometimes if the fibroid is too large, like the size of an orange or a grapefruit, it might be impossible to shrink it back down. It’s always worth a try, but if not, see if you can find a surgeon who will just remove the fibroid and leave the uterus intact, if at all possible.

But in any case, you should still fix all the underlying reasons that caused the fibroid to grow in the first place, because if you don’t then other problems could arise or you could start growing more fibroids or other growths such as uterine polyps, nodules on the thyroid or cysts on the breasts or ovaries. All of these are basically caused from the same underlying problems discussed here. I see many women having their fibroids removed yet no attempt was made to get at the root cause of the problem.

And one more thing! You must avoid unfermented soy, such as tofu, edamame and soy milk, as well as fennel seeds, whether used in a tea or chewed on after meals as both are highly estrogenic and will feed the fibroid. I’ve seen many women through the years who did not know this and were eating lots of tofu and drinking fennel tea everyday unaware that they were making their fibroid grow larger and larger each week.

I hope this information helps you in your efforts to prevent and shrink fibroid tumors.

Thank you,

Dr. Marianne Teitelbaum

COOL & COMPOSED

this

summer

Feeling hot and bothered? Have you considered any of Vaidya Mishra's ayurvedic floral and herbal lotions, oils, and creams to help keep you cool and composed externally? This is an important detail. Summer is a blissful time when Nature is in full swing with flowers, fruits, and life buzzing on all planes. It's a time for outward expression, and joy! But summertime is also a time where things heat up inside-out, and lead to inside-out pitta  aggravation too and crankiness! Your eyes can feel dry and tired; your skin will feel hot and dry or sticky and sweaty; your stomach acidic or you will lack appetite; you may be easily irritable and/or sad; hot and bothered despite keeping your AC unit on 24/7! In the summer time, it's important to cool things off from the INSIDE-OUT: internally through foods and drinks, externally through transdermal applications. In this newsletter issue, we showcase unique pranic formulations for external application that are loved by thousands of people around the globe. Next week we will feature some recipes and SVA tips for internal cooling.

Questions? Comments? If you love Vaidya Mishra's unique products, leave us a testimonial on the product's page. Namaste! –

Here's a most delightful massage oil to help balance bhrajak and sadhaka pitta.

Garden of Soma cooling Massage oil contains: "Garden of Soma Herbal Synergy" (proprietary blend) with lavender, lime, sweet orange, himalayan cedar wood in a base of organic coconut oil.

This is our most pitta pacifying massage oil as its name indicates. It is not only great for calming the bhrajaka pitta (metabolic functions of the skin), it is also overall cooling and soothing for all pitta subdoshas. Formulated to balance and cool the skin, without aggravating shleshaka kapha, the lubricating factor, of the skin. It is a coconut oil based mixture that has additional cooling and soothing properties deriving from added florar essences.

 Ingredient-wise benefits:

Lavender: calms and soothes the mind, even as it cools off heat-aggravated skin.

Lime: Alkalizing, and a natural preservative

Sweet orange: Enhances absorption of oil and other nutrients through the skin. Vitamin C (in sweet orange and lime) carries a nurturing action that protects the skin from hyper pigmentation resulting from overexposure to sunlight.

Himalayan Cedar: enhances the intelligence of the skin organ by dilating the physical and vibrational channels

Coconut oil: naturally soothing and cooling, calms bhrajaka pitta and supports skin health, particularly in hot climates. Soothing relief for many pitta related skin problems caused or aggravated by extreme heat or overexposure to sunlight.

Pitta Massage Oil: Made with a blend of sandalwood, vetiver, and cyperus in a soothing coconut base, this oil cools the body and emotions, while also giving the balancing effects of abhyanga (Ayurvedic massage).

Pitta Massage Oil with Magnesium: Pitta Oil with Magnesium: Magnesium may sometimes be a little heating for people with high Pitta, particularly for the Bhrajak Pitta, or the pitta of the skin. Given that Magnesium is an important ingredient that can benefit all, here is a special oil that makes it safe and effective to use by high pitta or pitta body types.

In addition to Magnesium, this Pitta oil contains the active molecules of Turmeric (Curcuma longa) as well as Tree Turmeric (Berberis aristata). Turmeric is well known for its anti-inflammatory and anti-allergenic properties. In addition, it is an excellent complexion enhancer. The next ingredient, Tree Turmeric (Berberis aristata), also known as Daru haridra, is very good for pacifying Bhrajak pitta when used topically. These ingredients are added to a base of coconut oil – the best oil for cooling and pacifying pitta. This formula is a unique combination that helps pacify bhrajak pitta, as it detoxifies and nurtures the skin at the same time for individuals with high pitta or sensitive skin. The aromatic molecules of Grapefruit and Sweet orange act as carriers. This is a totally non-clogging, light, fragrant oil

that you can use on the whole body, morning and evening, before showers, to cool, detoxify and nourish.

Surya Shanti Cream can be used whenever your skin is hot and burning. The Sanskrit word, surya, mean "sun." And shanti means "pacification." Surya Shanti Cream pacifies the heat generated by too much exposure to the sun.

This cream was designed to be an Ayurvedic sunscreen substitute, but it has not been tested by the FDA. Use it at your own risk.

It balances brajaka pitta, the pitta located in the skin. It helps reduce hot burning sensations on the skin, whether caused by internal toxins, like amavisha, or by sunburn, or by touching hot objects. Because it cools brajaka pitta so deeply, it can be a good preparation for exposure to the sun's hot rays.

Surya Shanti Cream has not been tested by the FDA as a sunscreen, and should be used with caution. However, some people are reporting that it is very helpful for preventing sunburn.

We suggest that you test it for yourself in a way that will not endanger your skin if it doesn't work for you. Try it on a section of skin for a moderate exposure time. If you replace your regular sunscreen with this product be warned that you do so at your own risk. You may need to keep applying during the day. It is not waterproof.

Sunlight heats the skin dramatically. If your skin is cooled by this cream prior to sun exposure, your skin's own natural resistance to sunburn is strenghthened. It is also great to apply after sun exposure. Many people are reporting that it can remove the redness caused by sunburn in just a few minutes. We invite you to test it for yourself.

The formula contains no chemicals or preservatives and delivers lots of cooling soma to the skin. It not only cools the skin, but opens the skin's reception to soma in the environment.

This cream will not block the good things you need from sunlight. Your skin will recieve what it needs to make Vitamin D from sunlight without getting imbalanced by the sun's burning quality. Get Vaidya Mishra's three hour course on Vitamin D to learn more about the importance of how you treat your skin if you want to get maximum Vitamin D from the sun.

If you are a high pitta type, you may experience burning sensations anytime for no apparent reason. This cream can be useful for restoring balance quickly. You may want to apply it on the neck or even the scalp whenever it starts to burn. It can also be helpful for cooling the body before sleep.

This product comes in two variations: regular coolness (Surya Shanti) and strong cooling (Surya Maha Shanti)

Aloe Vetiver Summer Lotion: Vetiver & Aloe Vera combine in this lotion to refresh, calm and pacify the dehagni (cellular agni) and pacify bhrajaka (governing skin) and sadhak pitta (governing emotions.) Apply liberally. Before Air Conditioning devices were introduced in remote Indian villages, and even nowadays, Indian homes in North India used vetiver grass mats hanging on their windows to cool off from stifling summer heat. Freshly woven Vetiver grass mats not only infuse a delightful cooling aroma to the entire house, but the scented molecules actually carry cooling properties. Ayurveda teaches us that, property-wise, vetiver is: sheeta (cooling); snigdha (unctuous or anti-drying); and sugandha (highly aromatic.) Vetiver nurtures the first layer of the skin called udakdhara (water-holding), and penetrates even deeper to the raktadhara (blood layer.) In summer, the increased agni in the environment increases the heat in the blood. That’s why we experience more heat in the body and brain. Vetiver aromatically cools off the blood and with regular use can even cool the muscle and fat tissues.

Aloe Vera is famous world-wide to soothe topical burns. Water soluble, aloe offers refreshing coolness to the first layer of the skin udakdhara (water holding) and enhances the skin’s luster and complexion  Aloe is very famous to cool the raktadhara (blood holding layer) of the skin as well.  Transdermally, aloe quickly reaches the liver and spleen and detoxifies the liver by its cooling effect.

A very active form of Aloe and Vetiver combine in this lotion to refresh, calm and pacify the dehagni (cellular agni) and pacify bhrajaka (governing skin) and sadhak pitta (governing emotions.) Apply liberally.

Navratna Celestial Radiance

For total support of the three levels of beauty (Rupam, Gunam, Vayastyag) the Lalita’s Celestial Radiance cream is infused with the vibrational intelligence of the 9 gems that represent the 9 planets. Jyotish, or the ancient vedic "science of light," explains that our individualities are the result of our past karmic actions, and the map that shows the benefits and set-backs dictated by our karmic past is found in the alignment of the planets at our birth. Lalita’s Celestial Radiance cream is formulated to give you a balanced tonic that can support the weaker planets that you may have in your chart, while it pacifies the malefic planets that may be aggravated in your chart. In this way, through the use of the Celestial Radiance cream, you can boost the “guna” pillar of beauty by strengthening or neutralizing things from within. The Veda-s clearly state that while we have freedom of choice as human individuals to make the right ethical decisions, the planets can sometimes cast their shadows on our mind to distract and divert us from the right decisions. Shielding ourselves from vibrational negativity through the use of gems and other remedial measures is an ancient science, and Lalita’s Celestial Radiance makes that science available for all those who want to apply the cream, especially on the marma points, to make for a more powerful delivery!

Why Navratna Celestial Radiance with Rose?

Do you know why emotional stress directly impacts the glow and health of your skin? When your emotions are on the rocks, your sadhak pitta and sadhak agni go off. This impacts all your other pitta subdoshas, stripping your skin of its luster, and slowing down its healthy metabolism. If you are under constant emotional stress, and your skin looks dull and flaky, no external application will help unless it address the heart of the matter, your emotions. Unless, that is, you use a prana-infused cream that contains Rose! Transdermal Rose can uplift the emotions by balancing sadhak pitta and sadhak agni right away– the sub- doshas and the flame that govern the emotional heart. Rose strengthens the emotional heart so it can better handle emotional challenges. Not only does rose pacify sadhak pitta – even as it balances sadhak agni – it also carries a "somnasya jana" or bliss-enhancing property. All sub-doshas are inter-connected. Any of Vaidya’s creams can be custom-ordered containing 100% pure and organic Rose Absolute. If you are experiencing emotional challenges right now, then you should go with the Rose Aroma.

But Rose also carries additional amazing properties confirming it as the Queen of flowers in the plant kingdom! Did you know that Rose is also known for its “vajikarna” properties? It supports the hormones and is a wonderful additional to any romantic setting – making it a Valentine Day’s favorite. But rose is also beneficial for individuals who experience heat or burning sensations in their limbs or their body overall. Regular transdermal use of rose cleans the sweat inside-out, neutralizing its pH, so that when it is released through the skin, it does not cause irritation. Rose in your facial cream can be especially beneficial if you are a vata or pitta or a mixture of both in terms of your overall constitution and particularly in terms of your skin type.

IS EMF TOXICITY REAL?

Did you know that current scientific research on EMF toxicity is inconclusive? A quick wikipedia search states that consensus amongst “experts” is that “despite extensive research, to date there is no evidence to conclude that exposure to low level electromagnetic fields is harmful to human health”… Surprised? Not convinced? Then read what the World Health Organization website says: “Based on a recent in-depth review of the scientific literature, the WHO concluded that current evidence does not confirm the existence of any health consequences from exposure to low level electromagnetic fields. However, some gaps in knowledge about biological effects exist and need further research.” Let's put aside the "some gaps in knowledge" for a moment and ponder what might those so-called "biological effects" be? Here's what they add:  "Reported symptoms include headaches, anxiety, suicide and depression, nausea, fatigue and loss of libido. To date, scientific evidence does not support a link between these symptoms and exposure to electromagnetic fields. At least some of these health problems may be caused by noise or other factors in the environment, or by anxiety related to the presence of new technologies.” The claim of "anxiety related to the presence of new technologies" is actually the latest way of categorizing things, and it is referred to as EHS: "Electromagnetic Hyper Sensitivity (EHS) is a condition defined by the attribution of non-specific symptoms to electromagnetic fields (EMF) of anthropogenic origin. Despite its repercussions on the lives of its sufferers, and its potential to become a significant public health issue, it remains of a contested nature."

But we should know by now that recalls and recanting are matter of fact in science – that’s why it’s called re-search! As new findings surface, scientists revisit their conclusions and many a times completely contradict themselves. Vaidya Mishra said it best, he used to chuckle and add: "There have been no recalls in Ayurveda for the past several thousand years!" Because the knowledge was not gathered through limited sensory exploration and limited devices – but that’s an altogether different topic. In SV Ayurveda, we know that overexposure to EMF can cause a wide panoply of health imbalances – Vaidya Mishra explained and demonstrated how too much electricity and overexposure to electric devices can cause more harm than good, specially if we do not counterbalance with remedial ayurvedic protocols. With SV Ayurveda, you can understand what EMF actually is, how it relates to Prana, and what you can do about it – in terms of diet, lifestyle, and additional balancing measures. Find out the full protocol in our upcoming events.

No sunshine? No problem! With Vaidya Mishra's transdermal application creams and lotions, you can get all the benefits – minus side-effects… Transdermal creams and formulations are safe as "bhrajak pitta" in the skin knows how much to absorb and deliver to rakta dhatu and circulate into the body. Specially when you apply something that's fully of prana and live. When chemicals are applied they literally force their way in, may burn and rupture channels, and disrupt the body's innate intelligence. With pranic ayurvedic  formulations you get the best of all possible worlds! Find out more about Vaidya Mishra's full line of SVA Vit D formulations, and how they may help you.

Here Comes The Sun!

Discover All the Health Benefits It Offers Us Beyond Vit D!
3 v sized

My teacher and mentor Vaidya Rama Kant Mishra came from a 5,000 year old lineage of Ayurveda whose specialty was Dermatology. They originally came from what is believe to be the modern island of Madagascar and were known for their “worship” of the sun since it gave life to us and contributed to our emotional and physical well-being and health.

I remember Vaidya told me one day that the sunlight hitting the skin did more than just manufacture Vitamin D, but we hadn’t yet discovered most of the things it could do.

Remembering his words, I always made it a point to try to follow up on any research that might reveal more information about the sunlight’s amazing health benefits than just its role in producing Vitamin D through the various layers of the skin.

Following is a lot of the information I have gathered through the years on the role the sunlight plays in giving us good mental, emotional and physical health. I’m sure research will produce even more benefits in future years. So here is what we know so far:

The human skin is the largest organ, accounting for around 12% to 15% of a person’s total weight. The skin has several layers that help protect the muscles, ligaments, internal organs and bones from outside threats.

The epidermis is the visible layer of the skin — it is waterproof and prevents infections. The invisible portion of the sun’s radiation is called ultraviolet radiation, also known as UV light. UV light is available year-round in the tropics and during part of the year farther north and south. There are three main varieties of ultraviolet light: UVA, UVB and UVC.

UVA does not stimulate Vitamin D production, but it does stimulate the production of nitric oxide, which is vital for human health.

UVB stimulates the epidermis to produce Vitamin D.

UVC radiation is the highest energy portion of the UV radiation spectrum. UVC radiation from the sun does not reach the earth’s surface because it is filtered by the earth’s outer atmosphere and the ozone layer.

All tissues in the body have Vitamin D receptors, and the brain and central nervous system must have Vitamin D to function properly. Sun exposure is the direct, natural way to obtain significant amounts of Vitamin D.

Exposure to the sun provides 90% of the Vitamin D for humans. Vitamin D from sunlight can be synthesized in the skin mostly around midday, from 10 am to 2 pm. The more skin that is exposed the greater the amount of Vitamin D is produced. A good rule of thumb is that the shadow of an object should be shorter than its height — this is the best type of sunlight for you to produce Vitamin D, again, around 10 am to 2 pm. As much as 20,000 IU of Vitamin D can be produced with whole body exposure at midday.

Vitamin D produced in the skin from sunlight exposure does not lead to Vitamin D toxicity and is considered safe, as the body limits its own production This is not true for Vitamin D supplementation which you can overdose on if you take too much orally.

In the North American winter, due to the low angle of the sun, Vitamin D cannot be produced through UVB sun exposure north of 35 degree latitude. The reason is that UVB rays are at an angle and are filtered out through the atmosphere. This is the same for the Southern winter, south of 35 degree latitude. But don’t think that just because Vitamin D cannot be synthesized by the skin during winters, or during early morning or late afternoon, one should not try to obtain sunlight during these periods. The sun has numerous other benefits at all times of the day and at all seasons and you should take advantage of it whenever it is available.

The time required to make sufficient Vitamin D varies according to a number of environmental, physical and personal factors, but is typically short and less than the amount of time needed for skin to redden and burn. Full body UV exposure or the equivalent of being slightly pink 24 hours after exposure will provide between 10,000 and 25,000 IU of Vitamin D. The surface area of the skin exposed will influence the amount of Vitamin D made after UVB sun exposure, and lying down exposes more skin than standing up. A key to being safe is to leave the sun at the first sign of pinkness. Tanning acclimates the skin to reduce the risk of overexposure, but the inability to tan is a risk factor for skin cancer.

I think that most people aren’t aware of the fact that the skin makes more than just Vitamin D from sun exposure: it makes nitric oxide, dopamine, serotonin, endorphins and BDNF (a neuron growth factor and preventer of nerve death), and photoproducts that may reduce the risk of MS, heart disease and cancer, as well as many other diseases.

Exposure to morning sunlight improves sleep! Your body creates a hormone called melatonin which helps you sleep. Sunshine regulates your circadian rhythm by telling your body when to increase and decrease your melatonin levels. So, the more daylight exposure you can get, the better your body will produce melatonin when it’s time to go to sleep. Any parent will tell you how well their children sleep at night after playing outside all day in the sunshine.

In fact, studies show that a lack of daylight disrupts some hormonal processes in our bodies causing our circadian rhythms to shift which might cause some people go to sleep later and later in the evenings resulting in an increased risk of depression. Many of the teenagers I see who suffer from depression go to bed very late, past the bedtime recommended by the ancient Ayurvedic doctors, which is 10:00 PM.

The earliest morning sun is responsible for resetting the circadian rhythm. Try to be outside for a half hour when the sun rises each morning. A 2019 study found that exposure to morning sunlight results in greater alertness. A 2017 study published in the journal Sleep Health demonstrated how people who are exposed to sunlight in the morning sleep better at night and feel less stressed and depressed than people who don’t get access to morning sunlight. Research from Denmark has shown that morning light relieves anxiety by reducing the activity of the brain’s fear center.

The ancient doctors predicted this as well stating that we should wake up at the crack of dawn and if in fact we woke up once the sun was already up, known as the kapha time of day, we would have a dense heavy feeling of lethargy and depression would last the rest of the day. The kapha time of day is from 6 am to 10 am, so we should always wake up no later than 6 am if at all possible in order to feel the most energetic during the day.

Waking up early and exposing yourself to morning light is one way to lock the body into a good 24 hour schedule which means better sleep at night and more alert, energetic mornings. When those rhythms are off, you might have trouble getting out of bed in the morning and then have trouble falling asleep at night.

Our brains produce a protein called BDNF which promotes growth of neurons and prevents nerve cell death. Researchers have shown that BDNF has an effect on behavior, mood (depression), brain adaptation (plasticity). BDNF levels increase in spring and summer and decrease in fall and winter. BDNF levels increase significantly after bright light exposure. Research has shown that bright sunlight increases new nerve cell growth in the adult rat brain. To quote from the study: “We are actually seeing new brain cells being built by bright sunlight exposure combined with exercise.”

How does sunlight help depression? Well, for one thing, the sunshine boosts your body’s production of serotonin, which is a neurotransmitter that improves your mood and helps you stay calm and focused. This neurotransmitter serotonin is a natural “upper,” working in synchronization with the natural “downer,” melatonin. When we wake up to sunshine the light enters the eye and stimulates serotonin production. We then quickly become awake and invigorated and melatonin is suppressed. At the end of the day, however, the bright light disappears, melatonin levels rise and serotonin levels diminish. We begin to feel sleepy and ideally retire for a good night’s rest.

Sunlight dramatically increases serotonin levels in the brain. Researchers in Australia measured serotonin levels in response to varying degrees of bright light. They withdrew blood samples from 101 men during varying weather conditions and seasons. The results were remarkable: Men who were measured on a very bright day produced eight times more serotonin than those who were measured on a cloudy, dismal day.

Selective serotonin re-uptake inhibitors (SSRI) such as Prozac work by keeping serotonin in circulation since lack of serotonin may cause depression. Sun exposure can increase the amount of serotonin in the circulation by 800% in one day, without the toxic side effects of the SSRI’s.

They also observed that the effect of bright light was immediate and that there was no holdover from day to day. Serotonin levels were also seven times higher in summer than winter.  This is why people develop seasonal affective disorder (SAD), a form of mood disorder occurring especially in winter, and characterized by depression, irritability, aggression, weight gain, fatigue and inability to concentrate.

It has also been shown that depressed psychiatric patients residing in sunny rooms stayed in the hospital 2.6 fewer days on average than those who had darker rooms. The sunny rooms had windows, so it is likely that endorphins created by the sun’s rays entering through the windows were responsible for making the patient feel better. It could not have been from Vitamin D as was previously thought because the UVB light necessary to produce Vitamin D is filtered out by window glass.

Another study showed that the more TV teenagers watch, the more likely they are to be depressed as adults. For each hour of TV watched, the rate of depression increased significantly. Sitting in dark rooms with TV on with less sunlight create insufficient levels of Vitamin D, endorphins, and serotonin, leading to long-term mood disorders. Add to this a sedentary lifestyle, and junk food causing obesity creating a perfect recipe for depression.

The brain also produces endorphins by the skin in response to sun exposure. Endorphins elevate the mood while producing a sense of well being.

Dopamine is a neurotransmitter that is responsible for making us feel bliss, euphoria and gives us enhanced motivation and satisfaction. This “upper” as it is sometimes called, also increases with exposure to sunlight.

So serotonin, endorphins and dopamine, famously known as the “happy hormones” which promote feelings like pleasure, happiness and even love are all produced from exposure to sunlight.

Nitric oxide (NO) is produced by the skin after exposure to the UVA from preformed stores of NO in the skin. NO reduces blood pressure since it is a potent vasodilator, which means it opens up the blood vessels, and when released into the arteries by UVA stimulation, it causes increased blood flow in the blood vessels, which lowers blood pressure. It gets produced even if filtered through window glass (unlike Vitamin D which needs direct sunshine on the skin to be made).

Seasonal cold and flu outbreaks are related to lower solar UVB doses. In the northern hemisphere, influenza occurs in December through March. In the southern hemisphere, outbreaks occur June through September- almost exclusively in winter in both hemispheres. The outbreaks in each case occur in times of lowest sun exposure.

Relatively new and very important research shows that sunlight boosts the effectiveness of T-cells. T cells are a huge part of the immune system, they are a type of lymphocyte which recognizes and binds to foreign invaders, rendering them harmless.

The UV spectrum of sunlight stimulates the production of hydrogen peroxide which causes the T-cells to move to the site of infection to kill noxious bacteria. T cells, whether they are helpers or killers need to move to get to the site of infection to do their work. This study shows how sunlight directly activates these key immune cells by increasing their movement.

It turns out that the skin has a large share of the total T-cells in humans, about twice the number circulating in the blood. So the sun exposure activates the T-cells to move quickly to areas of the body where they are needed to fight infection. This is why there is less influenza, pneumonia, colds and flus in the winter.

Vitamin D has a direct influence on MS patients. MS is found in the northern part of the northern hemisphere and is virtually non-existent in sunny countries around the equator. The risk of MS in far northern areas is more than 100 times greater than it is in areas around the equator, where sunlight is intense, and the rate of MS approaches zero.

A sudden worsening of MS symptoms is known as a relapse or exacerbation and research shows that these events are profoundly related to serum Vitamin D levels. One study shows a correlation between Vitamin D levels and the rate of relapse in that for every increase in serum Vitamin D levels of 10 units, there is a 34% decrease in the risk of relapse in young people.

Remember, 90% of serum Vitamin D is derived from sun exposure and the sun has even more protective effects on MS beyond Vitamin D. One study concluded that Vitamin D supplementation alone may not replace the ability of the sun’s UV rays to reduce MS susceptibility. What they found is that UV light inhibits spinal cord inflammation and demyelination by inhibiting a chemical known as a cytokine. Inflammatory cytokines are the cause of inflammation and autoimmune attacks resulting in MS.

And another study proved that sun exposure independent of Vitamin D has a direct effect on neurodegeneration where they found that greater summer sun exposure predicted greater grey matter volume and whole brain volume. It was also found that exposure to UV radiation help prevent the body from attacking itself by increasing the T and B cells which modulate and suppress the immune system. MS is an autoimmune disease in which the immune system attacks and destroys the myelin sheath of the body’s own nervous system. The myelin sheath is the protective covering to the nerve cells. The regulatory or T suppressor cells suppress these attacks preventing the disease. And the B regulatory cells are also a part of the immune system and can through their suppressive functions decrease inflammation through the production of anti-inflammatory cytokines.

This research is important because it shows how sun exposure works against MS in several different ways, only one of which may be the stimulation of Vitamin D production

The UVB light found in sunlight suppresses inflammation in the skin and thus has been used to successfully treat skin diseases such as psoriasis and eczema. Many patients report to me that their skin conditions clear up in the summer months with more exposure to the sun.

So, as you can see, the sunlight is extremely important for our health. That’s why, after the end of the long, cold winter most of us can hardly wait to feel the sun on our skin again and we breathe a sigh of relief as we feel the sun’s rays penetrating every fiber of our being, causing an immediate increase in our mood and at the same time helping your entire body to heal from the inside out.

I hope you found this information useful as you strive to live a healthy life.

Thank you,

Dr. Marianne Teitelbaum

Fwd: Vit K2 – What It Is & What It Does For You – with Dr Teitelbaum; PLUS: Prana Vs EMF: What Vaidya Taught Us – your SV Ayurveda Newsletter July 7, 2022 – #24, Vol 11

VIT K2:

What It Is

&

What It Does

For You!

The information I’m about to present to you is extremely important for you to understand. I’ve made lots of videos which are all important in teaching you how to take care of your body, but I would highly recommend you listen to this one a few times so you fully understand it, because most people are unwittingly making lots of the mistakes which I will be discussing here, causing all kinds of health problems from osteoporosis to cancer and diabetes, heart disease and just about any other disease you can think of. And the answer to curing all these diseases lies in preventing them from occurring in the first place. And it’s so easy to do — you just have to know this very important piece of the puzzle I’m about to present here.

Let me tell you a little story of how this information was first discovered, at least here in the Western world. Of course, the enlightened rishis of India who cognized Ayurveda already knew this information, but it took a very long time for that to reach the countries outside of India. So we had to learn it the slow arduous way, and in fact, most of us still haven’t learned it — and that includes most doctors as well as the lay patients.

So here goes:

In the 1930’s one of the most prominent health researchers and dentists of the 20th century, Dr. Weston A. Price spent 10 years traveling the world in search of the secrets to perfect health and longevity. He went to both remote places and the crowded cities of 14 different countries looking for healthy people and doing extensive research on them. He wanted to see what their secret was for their robust health compared to the poor health the Americans were experiencing.

He found that those people who ate their indigenous foods had strong bones and perfect dental arches, minimal tooth decay, high immunity to tuberculosis and overall excellent health compared to those people who were introduced to modern foods, such as white refined flour, refined white sugar, refined vegetable oils and canned and processed goods.

In other words, those who ate food the way nature intended, whole grains, fresh fruits and vegetables, nuts and seeds, meats and dairy products were extremely healthy.

He ended up writing a book, Nutrition and Physical Degeneration, comparing health statistics and photographs of those eating healthy with those who were eating processed foods. It became obvious to him after visiting so many people that those who ate the processed foods were much sicker than their indigenous counterparts who still lived in nature eating the wholesome foods which grew in the areas in which they lived. But there was something that intrigued him for years and he devoted a whole chapter discussing it in his book.

And this is what I would like to talk to you about today, because just knowing this one bit of information will go a long way into giving you the radiant health you are seeking.

He had discovered a new fat-soluble Vitamin. At first he thought it was Vitamin D, but then quickly realized it wasn’t that. It hadn’t been discovered yet, so he just called it Activator X. He believed it was a missing nutrient in our modern diet and that its absence could explain many of our modern diseases. He was able to heal dental cavities, reduce oral bacteria and restore life to sick and starving children who were near death by changing their diet to a more wholesome one which included this Activator X along with natural unprocessed foods.

He said Activator X was found in the butterfat of milk, in the eggs of fishes and the organs and fats of animals. Its highest concentration was found in milk when the cows were eating grasses, especially the quickly growing grasses which grow in the spring. He said it was also synthesized by the mammary glands and therefore found in breast milk, and played an important role in infant growth and development, as well as fertility and reproduction.

He said milk contained high amounts of this Activator X, but it was even more concentrated in butter. But he found he could concentrate the amounts further by centrifuging the butter and making a high vitamin “butter oil.”

Years later a name was given to this unknown fat-soluble Vitamin. It is now called Vitamin K2. Vitamin K1 is found in green leafy vegetables, but Dr. Price was specifically talking about this version, known as Vitamin K2, found in animal fats, milk, butter and butter oil.

Here is where the confusion lies. Vitamin K2 has differing types of side chains, represented as MK-4 to MK-13. MK means menaquinone; MK-5 through MK-13 are formed by bacterial synthesis. But the MK-4 is Dr. Prices’s activator X, which is unique and is the ONLY form that is not the product of bacterial synthesis but comes from animal sources.

So it is the MK-4, from animal fats, such as milk, butter and butter oil which give the very important health benefits. Note that butter and concentrated butter products such as ghee contain 100% MK-4. There are no bacterial MKs in these products. MK-4 is the fat found in nature which is designed for the growth and nourishment of all mammals.

Only Vitamin K1 and MK4 are found in the umbilical cord blood. The placenta actually blocks MK-7 while allowing MK-4 into the unborn child. High concentrations of MK-4 are found in the placenta. And MK-4 is needed for the development of the child.

In fact the traditional sacred foods for preconception and pregnancy were foods rich in MK-4 and babies were always weaned onto foods containing high amounts of MK-4.

MK-4 also helps in building strong bones and strong teeth. It also prevents cancer, diabetes and other serious diseases.

Now here’s the sad part. For years doctors have been telling people to avoid cholesterol and eat low fat diets. Just about the whole world changed their eating habits and started ingesting refined vegetable oils once doctors proclaimed that we should discard butter and instead eat margarine. Even in India ghee factories opened up making ghee from margarine. This is when our health took a nosedive. People started developing osteoporosis, dental cavities, arthritis and heart disease at epidemic levels. Women became infertile and children began developing all forms of speech and developmental delays.

Even to this day most restaurants continue to cook with a blend of refined vegetable oils. This is even true of all the health food stores who advertise that their baked goods are baked with oils, and not butter, thinking that this is a healthy thing to do. They don’t realize that these oils oxidize at these high baking temperatures and are very dangerous for our health.

It became obvious that when you heat the vegetable oils they form a plastic which clogs the arteries causing all the strokes and heart attacks we are witnessing today. So nowadays people are moving away from the polyunsaturated vegetable oils and instead are turning towards eating the more saturated avocado and coconut oils. These oils are somewhat heavy and hard to digest. People should learn about ghee. It is saturated, but very easy to digest. And it provides the very high doses of Vitamin K2 MK-4 that our bodies crave.

This was also very interesting to note: Dr. Price called this nutrient “Activator X” because he said that it acted as an activator or catalyst which aided in the absorption and assimilation of all the nutrients from our diets — protein, minerals, vitamins. He stated, “It is possible to starve for minerals that are abundant in the foods eaten because they cannot be utilized without an adequate quantity of the fat soluble activators.”

In other words that amounts of the nutrients we absorb into our cells depends on these fat-soluble vitamins. The ancient doctors knew this as well, which is why ghee is used as the base of many Ayurvedic herbal preparations. The herbs are cooked into the ghee because the ghee delivers them across the cell wall. And eating ghee in the diet does in fact enhance the absorption of all the nutrients we eat in our food since all the cell walls in our body are made of cholesterol and ghee becomes the vehicle to drag the nutrients across those fatty cell wall membranes and into our cells. Keep in mind: the food we eat can’t help you much unless it gets broken down and absorbed into the insides of your cells.

And here’s the other problem: Now that Vitamin K2 has been discovered, it is being put in all the synthetic Vitamin D supplements since K2 helps to ensure that the calcium transported by the Vitamin D is absorbed into your bones where it’s needed rather than being deposited in your arteries.

BUT…the type of Vitamin K2 that we get in supplements is MK-7 (yes, the type rejected by the placenta as previously mentioned), not the type we get in food. The best way to get active and efficiently assimilated Vitamin K2 is from food.

An NIH-funded study involving 27,000 people over a six-year period found that the health benefits associated with adequate intake of vitamins came from getting these nutrients through eating food as opposed to taking synthetic vitamin supplements.

There has been other research in 2018 by Nolan Chatron and his group who demonstrated that MK-4 had strong binding in the tissues whereas the MK-7 showed shaky binding and no stability, leading to MK-7 binding failure, which means they are not bioactive and at a very deep level cannot be utilized by the tissues. MK-4 on the other hand is very strong in its binding capacity, very stable and promotes healthy binding of calcium so it can be taken to the teeth and bones and away from the tissues and arteries.

And this all points up again to what the ancient rishis were trying to tell us: we want our nutrients to contain pranic energy, which means they should be grown outside under the healing rays of the sun and moon. This echoes Dr. Price when he stated that synthetic supplementation drowns out the wisdom of our ancestors — the knowledge that all health starts with nutrient-dense whole foods. As Dr. Price has stated, “People of the past obtained a substance that modern generations do not have.” And now we know this substance is his Activator X, now known as Vitamin K2 MK-4.

And Dr. Royal Lee, another famous dentist, researcher and founder of Standard Process Labs stated, “Just as the chemist cannot create life, neither can he create a complex vitamin, the life element in foods and nutrition. This is a mystery the chemist has not solved and probably never will.”

And keep this in mind, there is a widespread deficiency of Vitamin K2 MK-4 in the world due to our aversion to eating animal fat, animals raised eating anything other than grass, factory farms, high antibiotic use in animal feeds and in humans, animals fed GMO corn and soy, soil depletion, glyphosate, processed foods, and dysfunction of the gut. And if you are taking a statin or blood thinner these drugs create a deficiency in Vitamin K2 as they lower the cholesterol that the body so desperately needs to stay healthy.

Fresh churned traditional butter from raw A2 milk ready to be cooked into ghee

So let’s stop right here and examine this a little further. This is very interesting. Let’s look at the amounts of MK-4 found in certain fats: whole milk contains 10 units, butter jumps up to 90 units as you concentrate the fat out of the milk. Dr. Price concentrated the butter fat more by centrifuging the butter and creating a butter oil which contains 196-240 units. But look at this: ghee contains the absolute highest amount, which is 270-360 units!

The ancient doctors were so wise to recommend concentrating the MK-4 in this way. Of course they didn’t have the name for MK-4 but they knew at their high level of enlightenment that eating ghee, the essence of the cow’s milk would be very good for the developing child’s brain as well as for the mother’s fertility. Now we have solid research showing how correct they were. And they knew how to make it very concentrated: by making yogurt from heavy cream, churning that into butter and then simmering out the water and daily solids, or clarifying the butter, which concentrates the MK-4.

Vitamin K2 directs any and all calcium that comes into your body it into the teeth and bones, and away from the arteries, joints and other organs and glands. This is why Dr. Price found hundreds of specimens of people who had problems with their teeth and dental arches who were deficient in MK-4 yet those who ate these concentrated forms of fat had no problems with their bones or teeth.

And again, the ancient doctors were prescient in stating that the fat tissue was the raw material for the bone. That you needed good quality fat tissue to be converted into good quality bone.

And to make matters worse, many people are choosing plant-based milks over full-fat cow’s milk because it’s been drummed into their mind from an early age that cholesterol is bad for you and should be avoided at all costs. By doing so, they don’t realize they are eliminating one of nature’s most important foods. Fortunately it is becoming easier and easier to get very high quality whole milk from cows who haven’t been given any antibiotics or growth hormones and are out grazing in the pastures eating untreated grass.

As we grow into old age, we are entering what is known as the Vata stage of life, which means the element of dryness becomes more prominent in our bodies. Therefore it becomes important for us to keep lubricating various parts of our bodies because if our joints get dry, we can suffer arthritic aches and pains. The brain needs a continuous supply of cholesterol to prevent dementia. The hormones that keep you young, estrogen and progesterone in women and testosterone in men are made out of cholesterol, and even if we are post menopausal we still make these hormones. Which means we need to give our glands the raw materials, the cholesterol, to make these important hormones well into old age. And always remember this: cholesterol comes from an animal. So while avocados, coconuts, nuts, seeds and other plant-based fats may be good for many other bodily functions, they do not contain the much-needed cholesterol that the body needs. We need to keep up our intake of good fats since it is the fat tissue that transforms into the bone tissue. We also need to nourish the fatty layers in our skin to prevent the drying, sagging and wrinkling that can occur with old age. And don't forget our skin also needs a constant supply of cholesterol since the sunlight hitting the skin converts the cholesterol into not only Vitamin D, but also serotonin, melatonin, endorphins and many other hormones and neurotransmitters that the brain and body need to function properly.

So it’s important for us to keep up our intake of fats, and understand which are the most important sources of the highly important Vitamin K2 MK-4: found in milk and at higher levels in butter, with the highest amounts found in ghee made from grass-fed cow butter.

There is a reason why our elderly ancestors ate more of this fatty nutrient as they aged. We should listen to this wisdom and pass it on to future generations.
