Grief, sorrow, stress, they are all part and parcel of the experience of life on earth. Did you know that even though we may feel like it is only happening to us nowadays in unprecedented measures and resulting in all kinds of new ailments and dis-eases, Ayurveda addressed it thousands of years ago AND gave us tools to deal with it and heal from it. Tools above and beyond endless year-after-year sessions with psychotherapists and psychoanalysts; or chemical drugs; or other medical un-natural interventions… Vaidya Mishra taught us that in ancient times, Vaidya-s (men who had “total knowledge” and understood the deepest secrets of creation and the workings of the human body and mind), and Guru-s (Vedic spiritual advisors and guides), filled the much needed role that modern psychoanalysts and therapists occupy nowadays. They offered not only wisdom, but guidance AND healing.
This aspect of the ancient vedic teachings is not so prominent anymore, and we may not call up a guru or a vaidya for help when experiencing grief or trauma. Perhaps things will start to change slowly, as many realize that the modern “discovery” of talk therapy is many a times not only “useless” but can be actually quite harmful and more traumatizing than the original trauma! “Talk Therapy” – the Freudian discovery that led to psychoanalytic theoretical therapy – reactivates and resurfaces suppressed traumas and may thus provide some unexpected relief and perspective; however, it is unable to heal or address them in a way that restores balance to the individual in an integral manner. In fact, more than often more harm and hurt is caused rather than restorative healing. It is an anecdotal truth that psychotherapists and psychoanalysts were interviewed and asked to provide the number of individuals they had helped cure, and 99% said: “ZERO, NONE!” They had cured none. But with Ayurveda we have a completely Different scenario!
Rose Carol – MA, LPC, Certified SVAyurveda Educator, had the great fortune of studying not only Ayurveda but also the fundamentals of Sattva Vijaya with Vaidya Mishra one-on-one. She sat down with him during patient consultations and also attended many of his courses. Her primordial interest was to help people heal from trauma. A licensed graduate in Psychology, she combines her modern studies with the ancient vedic teachings that Vaidya Mishra made available to her. In her own words: “That which we put our attention on grows.” When we have the attention of an enlightened sage like Vaidya, then we feel better just being with them. Really for me, sitting in his presence was simply enough for my own healing to happen.”
Ayurveda offers us simple and natural and therefore even poetic remedies that soothe the heart and mind!
For this Valentine’s day, perhaps, instead of looking for love in and through others, we can start with our selves and own hearts… Loving oneself is the foundation for all healthy relationships with family, friends, and better-halves… Here is a beautiful opportunity to study with Rose Carol and have direct access to Vaidya Mishra’s Sattva Vijaya teachings through her.
