Reminder: Samadhi Marma: Give it OR receive it!; your SV Ayurveda Newsletter Dec 12, 2024 – #50, Vol 14

Facebook  Twitter  Instagram  Youtube

This may be the most beautiful time of the year, but it certainly can be the most stressful as well as we try to organize family gatherings, cooking, and gifting on top of regular daily busi-ness! But did you know that this holiday season, you CAN stay cool and composed by learning an easy quick ancient technique called “Samadhi Marma?”

Samadhi may remind us of emaciated naked monks sitting in lotus position with their eyes shut trying to experience the divine within… This is the caricatural version! Did you know that the actual meaning of “samadhi” is “balanced mind”? Just exactly this: a mind that is neither overworked nor stressed, but is “sama” – or even, as an undisturbed ocean!

There are SO MANY MISCONCEPTIONS on what Samadhi is and how you can achieve it! For example, if you do a quick google search on how to achieve samadhi, this is what you get – samadhi can be attained through the practice of :

  • Conscious breathing
  • Meditating on the endless energy within
  • Nurturing each aspect of your being
  • Practicing non-attachment
  • Stoping to crave possessions
  • Practicing regularly with full attention

Say what? Come again??? Such claims and guidelines are enough to turn anybody away from EVER wanting to explore what samadhi could mean!

So what is Samadhi then? Vaidya Mishra explained that Samadhi characterizes a peaceful state of mind. He added: when the mind is in samadhi, it is in total bliss! What does that mean?

In the state of samadhi, the mind is both totally grounded in silence and fully active in the world without compromising either state. It experiences peace, yet is able to be engaged in the activities of the world without becoming flustered. You guessed right! Samadhi, the state of balanced intellect, is the ideal state the mind we all should be in 24/7! So how do you get that?

 Do you need to live in a cave to attain samadhi?! Is it possible to attain such a state of peace and bliss amidst the chaos of the world? Patanjali’s Yoga Sutra from the 2nd century BCE, an ancient text of aphorisms on yogic practice says there are 4 ways or paths to Samadhi:

  1. “One can attain siddh-samadhi through janm (birth) very effortlessly and naturally, having accumulated brighter sattva due to past karmic actions;
  2. One can attain Samadhi due to aushadhi, the use of divine herbs such as brahmi, tulsi, arjuna, or ashoka;
  3. through the repetition of a mantra – the structured use of pure sound vibrations;
  4. and by means of tapas, abstinence from specific activities for the purpose of spiritual purification. Here is the actual verse in Sanskrit below:

Vaidya Mishra put together a beautiful protocol for us combining several of Patanjali’s precept. He created a course we call “Samadhi Marma” where you learn how to activate marma points through re-enlivening the flow of Prana into your body, and with the use of specific herbs suited for each marma point. The practice also includes the recitation of specific mantras.

SAMADHI MARMA

Samadhi Marma is a simple 5 minute technique that you can practice anytime of day to help regain “control” of yourself – your thoughts your emotions your body! It is an integral part of the ancient science of Ayurveda, and specifically of Marma therapy – the healing knowledge of energetic flow in the body.

Our bodies run on cosmic energy – PRANA – that flows through us every second of our lives.

When, due to environmental stressors as well other factors such as diet, overuse or misuse of our senses, our bodies become imbalanced, then the flow of prana gets mitigated. Depending on our body’s propensity, prana may flow less in some or other areas – everybody is unique!

This is why the ancient healers could heal WITHOUT herbs – just by harnessing the flow of prana to specific areas.

Vaidya Mishra has re-enlived this powerful knowledge for us and has presented it in a practical easy way.

The Samadhi Course teaches how to harness the power of Prana in 5 minutes.

Delicious Tridoshic Recipes

Nothing can help or cure us unless our digestive system is working optimally; reversely: nothing can ail us when our digestive system is working optimally! Ayurveda gives us beautiful details about how we can accomplish this. The details are beautiful because they restore our connection to Nature and its incredible complex detailed structures. For example: Ayurveda teaches us why it is important to Eat at certain times and fast at other times; eat specific things at specific times and avoid those same things at other times; eat with attention on the food; eat pranic food; eat foods prepared a certain way; etc – you get the idea!

In this light, Vaidya Mishra not only shared amazing recipes with us but he also taught us all those little details that make a world of a difference for more balance and bliss! The knowledge he shared with us was not only sublime and beautiful but it was also enlightening… So many would adopt new structures and routines in their diet, along with recipes, and sure enough, they would contact him back saying how not only their mind-set had shifted, but how their practice of yoga and meditation had improved tremendously AFTER they adopted SVA dietary guidelines and recipes.

Vaidya Mishra gave us so many delicious spice blends to use in the kitchen, specially the Mom’s Masala – a-ready-to-use pre-toasted blend of 20 herbs and spices that you can sprinkle on your food (no cooking needed) or even in your drinks (lime water, lassi, etc) or on top of fruit. If you have not tried them all out, you can order our rosewood sampler box to get a taste of each one.

But in case you are interested in learning more about food being your primary medicine, we now have available a course Vaidya taught in 2008 in Florida. Scroll down to see the content of the course. If you would like to sign up, click on the image below or here

Yakrit

Your Body’s Dynamic Powerhouse

Yakrit, the Sanskrit term for the ‘liver,’ literally means ‘where every process happens.’ The liver – the largest organ in our bodies – carries out hundreds of actions, primarily detoxifying and creating new blood; filtering out toxins/chemicals; building immunity. But did you know that it also has an amazing capacity to regenerate itself? Without the liver we wouldn’t be able to transform food into energy, by breaking down fats and proteins. Here are some of the liver’s most vital functions:

  • Produces fresh blood AND cleans toxins out of the blood: the many cells of the liver, known as hepatocytes, accept and filter this blood. They act as little sorting centers, determining which nutrients should be processed, what should be stored, what should be eliminated via the stool, what should go back to the blood; it also gets rid of old red blood cells; the liver thus regulates/maintains healthy amount of blood in the body;
  • Produces bile, a fluid that helps the body digest (break down) fat: the liver stores fat-soluble vitamins as well as minerals such as copper and iron, releasing them when the body needs them. It also helps to break down fats in a person’s diet: it either metabolizes fats or releases them as energy. The liver produces an estimated 800 to 1000 ml of bile each day. This bile flows into the small intestine where the fat gets broken down and absorbed – extra bile is stored in the gallbladder.

As if these functions weren’t enough, the liver also plays a major role in the following:

  • Metabolizes proteins and carbohydrates so they turn into energy and your body can use them;
  • Creates immune system factors that help fight against infection;
  • Create proteins responsible for blood clotting – otherwise we would bleed to death!
  • Breaks down old and damaged red blood cell;
  • Balances energy metabolism by converting glycogen to glucose and storing extra glucose by converting it to glycogen. Glycogen is a form of glucose that your body stores mainly in your liver and muscles. Your body needs carbohydrates from the food you eat to form glucose and glycogen.
  • Makes toxins less harmful to the body and removes them/detoxifies the bloodstream

So you can see how and when, for any reason, the “intelligence” of the liver gets compromised, different kinds of dis-ease may emerge. A compromised liver can mean compromised health on many levels…

In Shaka Vanshiya Ayurveda, we pay special attention to making sure the liver does not get “cranky” – as Vaidya Mishra would jokingly explain. Having taken the pulse of thousands of people who had “cranky hot livers,” he put together a gentle yet effective protocol to help cool things off and optimize its functions.

Learn How to Care for the Liver – from the SV Ayurveda Perspective

In this online course you will find 12 ½ hours of in-depth SV Ayurveda knowledge on how to care for the liver. Taught live at Arsha Vidya Gurukulam (Saylorsburg, PA), Vaidya Mishra takes us on a journey inside the yakrit (liver) – the body’s dynamic powerhouse. Teaching from the ancient sutras & the perspective of medical science, he elaborates the functions of the liver and all the etiological factors impacting it. These factors include diet and digestion; AS WELL AS emotions; PLUS environmental toxins; EMFs; and synthetic ingredients in most personal-care products. Vaidya Mishra also teaches us how to keep the liver healthy and manage its disorders through food, herbs, marma therapy, detoxification, rejuvenation procedures, and vibrational medicine, including the use of mantras (primordial sounds with specific known effects).
