Calcium
How to Supplement It
So You CAN Absorb It!
with Dr Marianne Teitelbaum
An estimated 43% of American adult men and women take calcium supplements, according to the National Institutes of Health. When someone thinks about their bone health, or maybe they have been told they have the beginnings of osteoporosis, which is called osteopenia, or maybe they have full-blown osteoporosis, the first thing most people think of is to take a calcium supplement.
But…please don’t rush out and take calcium without understanding everything you need to know about the types of calcium to take, the best way to take it, and how to balance it against magnesium. This is important because after analyzing 10 years of medical tests on more than 2700 people in a federally funded heart disease study, researchers at Johns Hopkins Medicine and elsewhere conclude that “taking calcium in the form of supplements may raise the risk of plaque buildup in the arteries and heart damage, though a diet high in calcium-rich foods appears to be protective.”
What the study showed was that people who took calcium supplements had calcium plaque deposits in their arteries, while those who ingested even very high doses of calcium in their diets showed no such effects. Their arteries were much cleaner with hardly any calcium deposits, causing them to state, “There is clearly something different in how the body uses and responds to the calcium found in supplements versus getting the calcium through the diet that makes it riskier. It could be that the body is unable to process the calcium supplements.”
Let’s look at this issue further because it’s a very important one.
I remember Vaidya Mishra, my Ayurvedic teacher and mentor, leaned over to me one day when we were seeing patients together and he said, “You know, when I take the pulse of someone taking a calcium supplement, I can see it’s sitting in the arteries, clogging them and not absorbing into the bone.”
And the ancient doctors of India over 3,000 years ago wrote in their textbooks that a calcium supplement should have certain properties: first it must be found in nature in the ocean, alive and filled with pranic energy. Nowadays the calcium supplements are made in a lab, devoid of nature’s healing energy. Therefore, in Ayurveda we search the ocean for pearls, red coral, white coral, and snail shells in order to meet this first requirement. The second requirement was that once collected, these various types of shells and coral needed to be incinerated for several months, repeatedly burnt into an ash. And each time they burnt it, the molecule would become smaller and smaller until finally it became what is called a “nanoparticle,” a microscopic molecule that is so small it can now easily be absorbed out of the bloodstream and into the bones and teeth.
Somehow the ancient doctors knew that the raw unprocessed calcium molecule was too big to be absorbed into the bloodstream. And they knew all this without microscopes!
So part of the issue then is about the type of the calcium you take. The resultant ash that is formed when you burn the coral and pearls in this way is called a bhasma. We recommend bhasmas of coral calcium, pearl bhasmas, and a wonderful bhasma called, Praval Panchamrit, which is a mixture of pearls, shells and coral. Praval means coral, panch means 5 — so five types are used and amrit means a nectar or ambrosia.
So Praval Panchamrit is used as the premier Ayurvedic calcium supplement, readily absorbed out of the bloodstream and into the bones and teeth. It is also used for other ailments besides bone health, such as alkalinizing the blood and the urine. And since it is so cooling it is used in cancer where the inside of the cell is acidic. The nanoparticle of the cooling coral calcium can go deep into the inside of the cell to alkalinize it and cool it down, preventing the growth of cancer.
The Ayurvedic texts refer to more than 20 sources of calcium, but coral calcium is considered to be the best. And Vaidya Mishra’s family lineage processed the coral calcium under the moonlight with rosewater for 11 nights to infuse the calcium with soma, nature’s cooling energy.
But in addition to taking the proper calcium, you have to be able to digest and assimilate it. This is why we pay lots of attention to the friendly bacteria in the gut, which are responsible for its digestion and absorption.
And you must also look at Vitamin K2, Magnesium and Vitamin D, all of which help the absorption and assimilation of calcium into our cells.
Vitamin K2 directs the majority of the calcium we take into our bones and teeth. We definitely don’t want it to roam and get deposited in the joints, which could cause arthritis, or calcifying our organs, glands and arteries. The problem is that our diet provides little Vitamin K2 which could result in older people suffering from calcification of their brain, joints, glands, heart valves and arteries. It is basically found in fatty animal proteins, so nowadays people are following low fat diets to improve their heart health and cholesterol levels when ironically this leads to low levels of Vitamin K2. It is however, found in full-fat dairy products, which is why we always recommend ghee and boiled full-fat milk, neither of which will clog the arteries. In fact, ghee has one of the highest amounts of Vitamin K2 than any food, even 3x more than butter and 20x more than whole milk!
And one very important fact about Vitamin K2 — nearly everyone is taking it as a supplement along with their Vitamin D, since it is so necessary in sending the calcium to where it’s needed and keeping it away from areas where it is not needed. HOWEVER, AND THIS IS EXTREMELY IMPORTANT: the type of Vitamin K2 that we get in supplements is the MK-7 type, not the type we get in food, which is the MK-4 type. Vitamin K2 MK-4 from animal fats, such as milk, ghee and butter are quickly absorbed in the body and is stored in the brain, salivary glands, testes, sternum, face, pancreas, eyes, kidneys, bones, arteries, veins and other tissues. But unlike MK-4, MK-7 is not stored in any organs.
One study showed that K2 MK-7 supplementation had no effect on bone loss rates. Lots of other research on MK-7 vs. MK-4 states, “The research points strongly to the conclusion that humans need to get their Vitamin K2 as MK-4 from food sources. After all, we evolved eating Vitamin K2 MK-4. It is already in the form that the body needs and we don’t need to expend enzymes and energy to convert it. The organs and cells that need Vitamin K2 readily absorb and utilize the MK-4 form. And finally, MK-4 is more efficient than other forms, appearing in food with other synergists and activators that work together to maintain its therapeutic effects. It can’t be stressed enough that the type of Vitamin K2 that we get in supplements is MK-7, not the type we get in food. The best way to get active and efficiently assimilated Vitamin K2 is from food.”
We also need to factor in magnesium when we think about calcium supplementation. Most everyone is deficient in magnesium due to stress — the stress hormones released by the adrenal glands flush the magnesium out of the body. And just about every pharmaceutical depletes magnesium stores. To make matters worse, the soil is also very depleted in magnesium. We recommend taking magnesium chloride. It is better than the sulfate form found in Epsom salts. Our patients take it through the skin in various magnesium creams, roll-ons, and abhyanga oils used for daily oil massage. We also recommend magnesium-rich foods such as avocados, cooked spinach, soaked and peeled almonds, cashews, whole grains, seeds, yogurt, and lentils.
Adequate levels of magnesium are important for the absorption and metabolism of calcium and Vitamin D. Magnesium converts Vitamin D into its active form so that it can aid calcium absorption. Magnesium keeps calcium dissolved in the blood so that it doesn’t deposit into the arteries. The average American diet contains high calcium-low magnesium. So this fact, combined with taking too much calcium and not enough magnesium can cause some forms of arthritis, kidney stones, and calcification of the arteries as the excess calcium gets deposited in these areas.
The ratio of calcium to magnesium should be anywhere from 2:1 to 1:1. Most people do not get their minimum daily requirement of magnesium, causing a high calcium low magnesium ratio of of 4 or even 5:1. So you can see then how important it is to use your transdermal magnesium products if you want to take a calcium supplement and use good dairy products such as boiled whole milk, yogurt and soft curd cheeses. You must balance out all this calcium with magnesium to keep the correct ratio of calcium to magnesium.
Vitamin D aids in the absorption of calcium and is best obtained through the sunlight. The sun’s ultraviolet B light hits your skin, turning the cholesterol in your skin into Vitamin D3 which has to be processed by your liver and kidneys into the active form of Vitamin D that your body can use. So this means that you must get outside exposing as much skin as you can to the sunlight, without burning it of course, and keep your liver and kidneys in good working order.
During the winter months when you can’t expose your skin to the sun we offer our patients a transdermal version of Vitamin D. And if you can’t bring up your Vitamin D sufficiently through the skin, take it orally, but don’t overdose — some doctors are recommending extremely high doses which could overwhelm your liver as it tries to convert all the Vitamin D flooding into the bloodstream which would never occur at such high doses naturally from the sunlight. It’s best to keep your dose around 3,000-5,000 units per day as opposed to taking 50,000 units once a week as is quite often recommended.
So you can see it’s not as easy as just taking a calcium supplement. You need to educate yourself on the best sources of calcium found in foods and supplements, but also how to digest and assimilate the calcium so that it doesn’t get deposited into places you don’t want it to go, such as your arteries or your joints. And it’s good to understand how Vitamin K2, magnesium and Vitamin D all play a role in the assimilation of calcium into the body.
I hope you found this information valuable as you search for ways to keep your teeth and bones strong into old age.

KARELA
&
Why It’s SO GOOD for you
- as per science too!
with Dr Marianne Teitelbaum
When I think of the saying, “No pain, no gain,” I immediately turn my thoughts to the use of karela, also known as bitter melon or bitter gourd. This vegetable has numerous health benefits, but most people’s instinct upon first tasting it is to immediately spit it out due to its extreme bitter taste. If you can slowly develop a taste for it you will reap numerous health benefits from eating karela.
When Vaidya Mishra, my Ayurvedic teacher and mentor of over 20 years began training me, we would spend the entire day seeing patients with a few food breaks and a long lunch break in between. He was always concerned with nourishing himself with the most nutritious food possible, so we would always make a variety of healthy fruits, vegetables, grains, legumes and dairy products, such as paneer, yogurt and cultured ghee.
Vaidya Mishra was a very funny man. On the days we were eating karela he would always turn to me and say, “My liver is going to be so happy!” The truth is, he, (or I for that matter) didn’t totally love the taste of karela, but we ate it because of its amazing health benefits.
Its bitter taste turns off so many people, but keep in mind that foods that have a bitter taste are very good for the liver. They not only cool it down (along with the lungs, spleen and heart) but there are compounds in it that will help the liver in all its functions.
For example, bitter melon aids the liver in lowering LDL cholesterol as well as triglycerides.
And many asian cultures around the world (India, China, Thailand) incorporate bitter melon in their diets because they are aware of its other amazing capability of lowering the blood sugar. Bitter melon helps your cells use glucose and move it out of the blood and into your liver, muscles and fat. Many patients report to me that they have reversed their pre-diabetic tendency and in many cases even full-blown diabetes by eating bitter melon several times a week. Bitter melon contains a compound similar to insulin and is effective in treating both Type I and Type II diabetes.
Vaidya’s Karela soup mix is blend of karela and spices to support glucose metabolism. Scientific research indicates that karela supports the pancreas and helps the complex interaction of insulin with glucose. The freeze-drying method of processing that Vaidya uses maintains the intelligence of karela AND reduces its bitterness. The cumin burns ama that would otherwise clog the channels. Coriander eliminates toxins via the urinary tract. Arrowroot acts as a thickening agent, and a binder for reactive toxins so that they travel through the channels for elimination without damaging them.
Directions: add 24 oz water to a pot, add 1 tablespoon of Karela soup mix. You can chop up some daikon or asparagus, or chop up some baby spinach or celery. Your imagination is the limit. Bring all to a boil and then add a squirt of lime and fresh chopped cilantro. Enjoy!
Ingredients:
Karela (Bitter melon or Momordica charantia), Coriander (Coriandrum sativum), Cumin (Cuminum cyminum), and Arrowroot (Maranta arundinacea).
Many people use it for weight loss. In fact it’s been shown to stop the formation and growth of fat cells and it prevents the fat cells from storing fat. It also increases metabolism. But keep in mind that you have to monitor how you feel when you eat it. Because of its strong capability of lowering the blood sugar if you eat it every day you might start to experience symptoms of low blood sugar, such as lightheadedness, faintness, or nausea. So while it might be fine for someone with pre-diabetes or diabetes to eat it every day, if you don’t have a blood sugar problem then you might want to eat it only 2-3 times a week.
The literature also states that eating bitter gourd can give you healthy glowing skin. This is because the skin reflects the health of the blood and the liver. The liver filters the blood so if the liver is functioning at its optimum level your blood will be very clean, which will be reflected in clear radiant skin. This is why it is also used for various skin conditions, such as eczema, psoriasis and acne. Always remember that problems with the skin are really problems with a toxic liver which contributes to toxic blood. Besides cleaning the blood karela can penetrate deep into other tissues to clean them out as well, such as the fat and the nerve tissues, both of which are host to the modern environmental toxins which tend to be absorbed into our fat cells.
Vaidya Mishra was always warning people to avoid the current fad of drinking bitter gourd juice which is popular both in the Western world as well as in India. He said that anything that is detoxifying for the liver should be cooked in a fat — ghee is the best and olive oil is the second best fat to use.The fat delivers it into our cells.
And in general cooking the food guarantees more absorption from the nutrients in the food you’re eating. Always remember that every cell in our body has a cell wall surrounding it which is made of cholesterol and it has the intelligence to take in nutrients while leaving out toxic compounds which might harm the cell. So by cooking the karela (or any food for that matter) with a fat, the fat will slide it much more easily into the cell for best absorption. That is why many of the Ayurvedic formulas are cooked into ghee and taken as a paste. The ghee carries the nutrients into the cell. This is also why it is good for us to cook with ghee and olive oil in our diet to aid in better absorption of nutrients.
Bitter melon is also good for the eyes. Ayurveda recognizes the relationship that the liver and the eyes share — both are considered pitta organs, sensitive to heat, and whatever you might do in life for the liver — eating good foods like karela, taking certain herbs and doing your semi-annual detox in the spring and fall — will help the eyes at the same time.
So it is no surprise that karela is good for the eyes as well. The heat from the liver rises into the eyes and can damage the retina and other structures, so whatever you can do to cool the heat in the liver will help the eyes. A bitter taste is very pitta-pacifying, which means it is cooling. And now we know bitter melon has both Vitamin A and beta carotene, both of which are good for the eyes. And it even helps to improve vision and prevent cataracts.
Bitter melon is even good for cancer in that it both fights it and prevents cancer cells from multiplying. It has been shown to dramatically reduce the risk of breast, colon and prostate cancer. We now know that sugar feeds cancer and makes it grow, which is why bitter melon with its dramatic tendency to clear the blood of sugar, should be prescribed to all cancer patients to eat at least 2-3 times a week to prevent the growth of their cancer by starving it to death.
It contains twice the amount of calcium than spinach and broccoli and twice the amount of potassium than a banana, which is good to know because bananas are not recommended in SV Ayurveda due to their tendency to create congestion and clog the body’s physical channels. Usually when I tell a patient to avoid bananas they immediately ask me what to eat to replace the potassium that the bananas give, so bitter melon would definitely be one way to do it.
And the truth is, anything that benefits the liver so much will end up benefiting just about every part of the physiology since the liver has over 500 functions and affects so many important processes in the body. Which is also why faulty liver function is at the root of just about any illness or health problem you can think of.
So providing your liver with one of the best foods known to mankind will go a long way to prevent most diseases. This is why karela should be part of your diet on a regular basis. If you don’t have access to the fresh vegetable Vaidya Mishra made Karela Soup Mix where he dehydrated the karela and all you have to do is add hot water, olive oil, soma salt (white Himalayan salt) and cilantro to make a side dish of karela soup at lunch or dinner.
I hope this information is of great benefit to you as you strive to improve your health.
Support Sugar Metabolism with Vaidya’s Sweet Nectars
Of course, an immediate way to remedy sugar metabolism issues is to stop the intake of too much sugar, and bad quality sugar or sweeteners. However, sometimes the body needs the soma from sugar, so that avoiding it all-together may not be an option. To satisfy that craving and the need, and to keep the sweet taste in the diet, there are many things you can do. Substituting honey for sugar – make sure it is high quality raw unprocessed. But did you know that Vaidya Mishra also made some delicious “sweet nectars” with different spices for additional ayurvedic support?
You can use any one of these any way you want – to sweeten your glass of water; to sweeten your cup of tea; to bake in with your muffins or cakes; or in your salad dressing (you can make a delicious dressing with Sweet Nectar with Cinnamon, lime, Mum’s Masala, Olive oil, and Soma Salt). When cooking any sweet dish with protein – maybe a yogurt salad, or a paneer dish, a milk pudding, or rice pudding etc., any sweet dish that has a high content of carbs, it will be great for you to mix the Sweet Nectar with Cinnamon, or with Cardamom. As you know, Cinnamon helps metabolize starch/sugar, and Cardamom helps metabolize protein molecules. Tip: when baking or cooking with the Sweeteners, add the drops at the very end of mixing the ingredients, so you preserve the aroma.
Alternately, the sweeteners may also be used according to your dosha: Rose for pitta; cardamom for kapha; cinnamon for vata. Rose is the number one flower/plant for balancing pitta dosha. It is also ideal for balancing and cooling off the emotions, or sadhak pitta.
Why have I added DGL? Deglycyrrhizinated licorice is also great for pitta individuals, as it supports the kledak kapha of the stomach, even as it pacifies the pachak pitta. It is an excellent ingredient for high pitta/low agni people – it cools off the pitta and sharpens the agni. Generally, our sugar craving is higher when our sadhak pitta is off, due to stress, or acidic food. Having a treat made with a SVA sweetener with DGL instead of reaching out for that sugary snack or ice cream, will prevent from further aggravating your sadhak pitta and clogging your channels.
This sweetener will also be great for those who have issues with sugar metabolism – either congenital or stress related. Not only will it satisfy your sugar craving, but if you use the nectar with Cinnamon, it will further support your sugar metabolism. The Sweet Nectar with Cinnamon is ideal for those with sugar metabolism challenges. Please note: the Sweet Nectar with Cinnamon does not replace any/all medications you may be currently on for sugar metabolism health conditions.

KARELA

Guduchi is Amrita
~ Bestower of Immortality ~
Nature loves to play! Through her incomparable creativity and imagination, she uses the basic set of creational elements that
the vedic Shastras call “Guna” to bring
forward hundreds of thousands of
variations and possibilities. With her
keen sense of beauty, and humor,
she unleashes her playfulness through
colors, shapes, sounds, unfolding a
wondrous creation! We may boast of our 21st century
technological scientific achievements and discoveries, but we are just barely getting to know the basics of life. Did you know that for every identified species on earth, there are 4 more that have yet to be discovered? What’s more, in this playful multiplicity, each one of Nature’s creations is as good as the other. Each one fulfills its own unique purpose in the bigger scheme of things, aiding in the maintenance and promulgation of the entire environment. None is better than the other or competes with the other… Mother Nature always creates a win/win situation for ALL…
There are, however, some exceptions to the rule! Based on their internal make-up or Guna constitution, some species of animals or plants are more pro-life or evolution, while others may have slightly different counter-evolutionary agendas that operate through delay tactics! Some species are more user-friendly, so to speak, while others may cause unduly delay and stress. So
how do we know to classify all these based on their supportive or destructive nature? The knowledge is so vast, and the criteria so subtle and complex, that most of it cannot be discerned by our microscopes or fancy scanners, not to mention any AI enhanced technoloyg. Luckily, as the ayurvedic story goes, a group of highly evolved humans who lived several thousands of years ago already took the time to do this for us. And the great part is, we can now confirm some of their findings with our modern technology. Such for example is a very special plant that goes by the name of Guduchi (Tinospora Cordifolia). Also called “giloy” in Hindi.
Amidst all the plants available to humans, Guduchi, was called
“Amrita” – bestower of eternal life – by the ancient seers. A native climber of North and South India, it is now increasingly gaining favor as a medicinal herb amongst scientists. Long touted as a powerful and divine herb throughout the alternative history of Ayurvedic healing, modern research is coming to recognize its unprecedented benefits through a number of research studies.
This plant has origins of mythical dimension. It is told in India’s most ancient epic tale of cosmogenesis, The Ramayana, that guduchi became a plant on earth when Lord Indra sprinkled amrit (nectar of immortality) from heaven. After the war with Ravana, Lord Rama prayed to Indra, the custodian of Amrit, requesting he bring back to life all the monkeys and bears that had fought by his side and died during the battles. Indra granted this wish and sprinkled the nectar from heaven. Wherever a drop landed on a dead monkey or bear, it came back to life. Wherever it landed on the earth, it sprouted into a guduchi plant.
The healing properties of guduchi are nearly endless. It is the best rasayana (rejuvenative) known in Ayurveda. As Vaidya Mishra’s SVA lineage explains, it is the only plant that can bind both amavisha (internal toxins) and garavisha (external toxins) and reestablish the intelligence of the body by repairing local damage caused by the toxins.
Vaidya Mishra further taught that Guduchi is full of Soma (nature’s cooling, nurturing lunar vibration) and helps to rebuild the dhatus (tissues) if/when they become low. Guduchi helps to clean the flame of the heart (vakshagni) so that it can handle any emotional challenges that may come its way.
Guduchi has all the properties of amritam, a rejuvenating and strengthening nectar. It is considered to be one of the most effective rasayanas / rejuvenative that may help to rid the body of deep rooted imbalances. In fact, it is so full of life and receptive to vibrational energy, guduchi can grow without any soil or water.
All parts of this plant, stems, roots, and leaves have been used for thousands of year in Ayurvedic medicine. The plant itself is considered beneficial for all 3 doshas or body types based on Ayurveda. The list of benefits of this special plant are innumerable, but here is a brief list of the most desirable scientifically confirmed properties.
Top 20 benefits backed up by recent scientific research findings:
Immune builder (the body’s own defense system), helps to increase the function of macrophages, which helps the body to resist infections. Immunopotentiating (an agent that enhances the immune response)1

Choosing Your Guduchi:
The high demand for guduchi has led to the proliferation of adulterated guduchi supplements on the market in varying qualities. You think you may be purchasing a good product, but to be certain, below is a list of a few things to consider and research before making your choice about where to purchase this divine herb:
Make sure no chemicals were used at ANY stage of the extraction or preservation process to ensure that its properties and qualities are kept intact.
Investigate how the guduchi was grown, harvested, stored, and transported.
Consider your own personal health condition; consult with your SVA expert or practitioner to help you make an informed decision for your individual constitution and current imbalances
Make sure you know the benefits as well as the cautionary effects
Analyze your diet and lifestyle; a good diet should be established for some time and the body fairly balanced before using guduchi to release the deeper toxins from the liver and other tissues.
Consider the forms in which you can consume guduchi and which is the most effective for your situation; teas, capsules, tablets, drops etc.
Chandika.com – home of Vaidya Mishra’s cutting edge ayurvedic alternative delivery formulations – carries a line of guduchi products that not only offer the purest formulations of Guduchi using the best collecting and processing procedures, but formulations that take into consideration the divine nature of this beautiful herb. The SVA team has taken the utmost care to preserve the original pranic vibration of guduchi during the process. Here is a list of your options if you are thinking about adding guduchi to your daily diet:
SVA Guduchi Herbal Memory Nectar: captures the micro-molecular intelligence of this pranic herb and delivers it to the most subtle levels of your physiology. The result is higher efficacy, faster delivery, and safety from detox.
SVA Immuno-Correct Tablets: reestablishes the intelligence of tissues and organ systems
SVA Immuno-Support Tablets and Herbal Memory Nectar: to support your physiology and its immunity and protect it against seasonal colds and imbalances.
SVA Geni-Support Tablets: genito-urinary tract support
SVA Liver Pro Tablets: support the liver’s functioning, and re-establish its intelligence
SVA Gluco-Support Tablets: help with the metabolism of sugar
Guduchi helps clean the liver without heating it. In fact, guduchi is able to detoxify the tissues all the way to shukra dhatu (the last tissue in the chain of transformation, and the most subtle tissue in the body, the reproductive tissue).
You can learn in detail about these and many other properties of guduchi in a downloadable lecture by Vaidya Mishra. In this 31 minute talk, Vaidya translates word for word from the Sanskrit text Bhava Prakash about guduchi.
You can put this and many other herb lectures on your iPod for just 99¢ here:
Guduchi – Learn About The Most Divine Herb in Ayurveda. The audio file comes with an accompanying PDF with the text Vaidya Mishra is translating so you can follow along.
Cautionary Effects of Guduchi:
Guduchi may lower blood sugar levels, therefore diabetic patients are advised to use it with caution under the supervision of the medical physician.
Avoid taking guduchi during pregnancy and breastfeeding Large doses may cause nausea.
Since it is considered a highly effective detoxifying herb, in particular for the liver, guduchi should be administered with proper preparation. Otherwise, improper use can lead to a detox crisis. 7
Cautions for Using Guduchi
You have to be careful when using guduchi. It is a powerful herb that can easily cause a detox crisis if it is not used with care. This is especially true when using the tablets. The physical herb will have a direct effect on the more gross physical dimension of the body triggering an accelerated detox. Toxins that are being evacuated need proper transportation pathways leading out so as not to 7
contaminate the physiology on their way out through toxic fumes or acidic residues. Once toxins are released in the body, there is no putting them back. Toxins travel through designated channels that have to be healthy to bear the load of the detox process, otherwise they may rupture those channels and flow over into neighboring organs, organ systems, tissues, causing further damage.
If diet is not proper and if there is no preparation of the channels before using it, it can at best be ineffective and at worst do more harm than good. The body must be properly prepared to handle the detoxifying property of guduchi.
There seems to be no relief for the modern liver. The sheer amount of toxins that the body has to deal with—generated both internally (emotional and digestive toxins) and externally (chemicals and EMF) is staggering.
When a detoxifying herb like guduchi is given to someone with an overload of toxins in the liver, or an overload of toxins in other deep tissues of the body, it can draw them out very quickly. The old toxins begin to come out of the liver and the deep tissues, and it may be too much for the body to eliminate.
There must not be any constipation in the body, which would prevent the toxins from getting out when they reach the colon. The channels in the body should be alkaline so that they can buffer the acidic toxins coming out.
Also, the digestion must be strong enough to fully digest the crude herb found in these tablets. And the liver must be clean enough to metabolize the herb without killing the vibrational energy of the herb.
Always use this herb under the direct supervision of a Shaka Vansya Ayurveda practitioner. Your practitioner may recommend theGuduchi Herbal Memory Nectar formulation because it is a safer way to deliver the properties of guduchi when the liver is full of toxins without causing a detox crisis.

the vedic Shastras call “Guna” to bring
forward hundreds of thousands of
variations and possibilities. With her
keen sense of beauty, and humor,
she unleashes her playfulness through
colors, shapes, sounds, unfolding a
wondrous creation!

Guduchi helps clean the liver without heating it. In fact, guduchi is able to detoxify the tissues all the way to shukra dhatu (the last tissue in the chain of transformation, and the most subtle tissue in the body, the reproductive tissue).
You can learn in detail about these and many other properties of guduchi in a downloadable lecture by Vaidya Mishra. In this 31 minute talk, Vaidya translates word for word from the Sanskrit text Bhava Prakash about guduchi.

Are you looking for the perfect tridoshic lotion for the Springtime? Look no further! Vaidya Mishra’s Tridoshic Lotion is all you will need. Why? With seasonal changes, our doshic imbalances shift to reflect the new temperature conditions. In the Winter time, vyana vata, bhrajak pitta, and shleshak kapha go high. This impacts our skin in different ways.
Vata
Vyana vata gets aggravated in the winter time due to 2 reasons:
our physical circulatory channels shrink due to the cold weather, and end up getting blocked. When they get blocked, moisture and the shleshak kapha in our cells is unable to move. When shleshak kapha is not free to circulate it cannot complete its task of lubricating the body;
drying cold wind creates even more dryness externally, killing the friendly bacteria that live on the skin, further depleting our skin, and bringing about premature wrinkling and sagging.
In this Tridoshic lotion, Vaidya uses many aromatic channel opening essential oils, such as: Peppermint; Camphor; Ajwain; Sage; Rosemary. These help dilate the circulatory channels, so the Shleshaka can move freely through. In addition, Vaidya uses Aloe and Vegetable glycerin to further moisturize the body from within, without clogging the channels. These ingredients help keep vyana vata in check. When Spring arrives and the channels start to dilate, this lotion supports the nourishment and resetting of the skin. And it also helps pacify Bhrajak pitta flare-ups that some may suddenly experience….
Pitta
Bhrajak pitta gets aggravated in the cold weather, particularly for pitta type predominant people, because the circulation of heat also gets obstructed due to the shrunk channels. Due to the blocked or poor circulation, their skin becomes more sensitive to the sun. This is further aggravated by the lack of shleshak kapha, which is also slowed down or blocked due to lack of circulation. Vaidya has added lemon to his lotion to help reduce photosensitivity to help with pitta sensitive skin. In addition, the Aloe, Vegetable glycerin, and the Neem, all 3 together, help pacify and nourish bhrajak pitta. But in addition, this lotion will help balance Shleshak Kapha as well…
Kapha
Shleshak kapha gets blocked and accumulated due to shrunk channels. In order to be balanced, it needs plants and herbs with agneya, or warming, prabhava, – ultimate action. Vaidya has added Holy Basil, whose mildly warming properties, along with Peppermint, Rosemary, Calendula, and Citronella, relax our channels to let the shleshak kapha flow through and moisturize and lubricate our channels.
The overall, in-depth cellular nurturing effect and efficacy of this balanced tridoshic lotion helps with long term use. This lotion will get absorbed fast into your skin, traveling deep into your cells, and it will retain, supplying moisture and hydration leaving you with a supple smooth skin. Regular use of the lotion will also help support the immune system of your skin, nourishing all the friendly bacteria by supplying them with prebiotic – Aloe and Vegetable glycerin support their growth. In addition, many of the essential oils used in the formula have scientific research showing their anti-fungal and anti-bacterial properties, which makes this lotion great to use on your feet, to help prevent local fungal infections, as well as keep your hands sanitized when you are out and about in the world during “flu season!” Keep the bad bacteria at bay and
harness the power of the friendly bacteria for youthful skin! Enjoy the fresh scent of the flowers and aromatic leaves, with accents of citronella and lemongrass!
