What did we ever do before air conditioning devices were introduced into our modern lives?!! How did we cool ourselves off?
Did you know that in traditional Indian village settings there were sophisticated ayurveda-informed practices that are still in used even nowadays? Remote Indian villages are nowadays equipped with modern amenities including internet connection, but many still do use traditional methods for shielding themselves against seasonal intemperance. Such as? Vetiver grass is a favorite plant for combating scorching temperatures. Mats are woven out of vetiver grass and hung on windows and entrances to filter summer heat. Did you know that freshly woven Vetiver grass mats not only infuse a delightful cooling aroma to the entire house, but the scented molecules actually carry cooling properties. Ayurveda teaches us that, property-wise, vetiver is: sheetala – cooling); snigdha – unctuous or anti-drying; and sugandha – pleasantly aromatic. Vetiver nurtures the first layer of the skin called “udakadhara,” as in the layer that holds water. But the properties of Vetiver penetrate deeper to the “raktadhara” or blood layer. In summer, the increased agni in the environment increases the heat in the blood. That’s why we may experience more heat in the body and brain. Vetiver aromatically cools off the blood and with regular use can even cool the muscle and fat tissues that are deeper tissue layers in the body.
Vaidya Mishra added another powerful plant to this formula: Aloe Vera. Aloe Vera is a prized plant in many ancient cultures of the world. It is used in so many ways, internally AND externally, for soothing skin ailments, dryness, topical burns. Aloe Vera is water soluble, so it is ideal when applied topically, for refreshing and cooling to the first layer of the skin “udakadhara.” It also helps enhance the skin’s luster and complexion. But Aloe is also prized for its ability to cool off raktadhara, the blood tissue layer of the skin. When applied transdermally, Aloe quickly travels and reaches the liver and spleen, and detoxifies and pacifies the liver through the cooling properties it carries.
Vaidya Mishra combined active forms of Aloe and Vetiver in this lotion to refresh, calm and pacify the “dehagni” or cellular agni, and pacify bhrajaka – the cellular intelligence that governs the skin, and sadhak pitta – the intelligence that governs the emotional heart.
The skin is the largest organ of the body, and it plays a crucial role in relaying energy and chemical transformations when exposed to sunlight. But, overexposure to sunlight can also have unwanted effects. That’s one reason this lotion will become your best “don’t-leave-the-house-without-it” friend during the hot summer days… and nights. Apply during the day to cool off and at night to regain balance after a hot day! With a light refreshing fragrance it will help soothe your body, mind and heart!
Apply liberally on all your body parts, and you can even apply on your face, and enjoy the beautiful hot summer days!
So what’s in your Vetiver & Aloe Lotion, and Why? And How does each ingredient help?
Aloe Vera: Calms and soothes the skin by its deep cooling effect on rasa (plasma) and rakta (blood);
Vetiver: is sheetala or cooling; Snigdha or unctuous; and Sugandha or aromatic;
Jojoba: Is a highly prized neutral, cooling, and light, skin lubricating natural oil;
Saffron: is the best “varnya: herb: it enhances skin complexion; it helps tone and preserve skin pigmentation;
Flame of Forest: enhances the intelligence of the skin and helps shield against sunlight. It is also a “varnya” herb or: complexion enhancer;
Devil’s Apple: supports and increases the cellular intelligence of skin;
Punarnava: Mobilizes and evacuates toxins from the “udakdhara” or water-holding layer of the skin.
Manjishta: maintains skin intelligence & pacifies “bhrajaka pitta” – the governing factor of the skin that can be easily aggravated by overexposure to the sun;
Turmeric: fights against inflammation of the skin resulting from overexposure to sunlight;
Gotu Kola: supports collagen synthesis;
Brahmi: maintains the intelligence of the skin layers;
Nutmeg: supports and maintains normal skin pigmentation;
Mucuna: supports dopamine production to maintain coordination between mind and skin – prana and vyana.
Green Tea Leaves: a great anti-oxidant for the skin, it prevents the formation of free-radicals (amavisha) from overexposure to sunlight;
Ashwagandha: supports the tactile nerves of the skin;
Lemon: helps keep a check on excess pigmentation caused by overexposure to sunlight;
Indian Sarsaparilla: acidic toxins, amavisha, released through sweat, irritate and can damage the skin. Indian Sarsaparilla purifies the sweat as well as the sweat glands;
Ashoka: maintains bliss by pacifying inflammation in the skin;
Shirish bark: supports slow but steady skin detoxification;
Sensitive Plant: nourishes and repairs the tactile nerves from damage due to overexposure to sunlight;
Neem: supports the immunity of skin through detox;
Rosemary: clears and opens the physical channels – shrotas – of the skin without heating them up.
The above herbs and plants are added to a pranic synergistic base made with: Organic fractionated Coconut oil with organic Vegetable Glycerin, and White grapefruit.

For approximately 30 years, Vaidya Mishra traveled all over the world offering consultations and courses in Europe, Asia (Japan) and North America. He was hand-picked by Maharishi Mahesh yogi himself and invited to join his council of 80 ayurvedic physicians. Maharishi Mahesh Yogi affectionally addressed Vaidya Mishra as “Vaidya Shiromani” – the jewel amongst Vaidyas, the brightest gem in the crown.
Thousands of people from all over the world still keep and follow his ayurvedic recipes for daily routine and lifestyle, as well as the unsurpassable knowledge he shred with us all, that sheds light on forgotten details and interpretations of herbs and their properties, the doshas, the cosmic creational gunas, and so much more.
August 5th was Vaidya Mishra’s birthday. In loving memory of his beautiful legacy, we share some testimonials below.
“I am deeply grateful to Dr. Mishra, whose wisdom and guidance have profoundly shaped my understanding of not only the ancient healing art of Ayurveda, but how to incorporate it into this modern era, making several changes in the way we administer the herbs, and how we detox the patients, among other things.
He shared not only his vast knowledge of the etiology of the disease process (which knew no boundaries!) but also the spiritual essence of his family’s divine SVA lineage of Ayurveda. His teachings have been a beacon of light helping me to gain practical insights into the correct diagnosis and treatment of every disease, while at the same time offering a deep connection to the sacred traditions passed down through generations. And finally, through his guidance he has also been able to help the patients who are in need of deep healing at a time when both modern medicine and holistic medicine (as we know it here in the “developed” countries) are failing them.
Through his thorough treatments protocols he has expanded the horizons in my practice and has helped thousands of patients regain the radiant health they seek.” – Dr Marianne Teitelbaum
I first met Vaidya Mishra in the 1990s, not long after he arrived in the U.S. I was visiting friends in Colorado Springs and since I wasn’t feeling well, they brought me to see him. Vaidya felt my pulse and immediately exclaimed, “Your liver! What have you done to your liver?”
At the time, I wasn’t practicing Ayurveda, though I had studied it for years. I was working as a network chiropractor, and also practicing and studying functional medicine. What he picked up on? I had been drinking copious amounts of noni juice, thinking “if a little is good, more must be better.” After feeling my pulse, he told me to eat only rice, dahl, and loki for three months. No spices. No exceptions. I panicked. I did it for one or two days.
Years passed. Jyotishi Blaine Watson gently nudged me to call Vaidya again. I resisted. I thought, “He’s just going to tell me to eat only rice and loki.”
But life has its own timing.
In 2008, on the night Maharishi Mahesh Yogi passed, something profound happened. I am a longtime TM teacher, and that night, as I lay in bed, Maharishi came to me in golden light. entered my heart, and untied some knots I had been holding onto.
And then I heard: “It’s time to study Ayurveda. Go find Vaidya Mishra.” The very next day, I called. Vaidya said yes. I flew to Los Angeles. He initiated me into the lineage.And I never looked back….
“I remember my first consultation with Vaidya Rama Kant Mishra during his first North American tour for Maharishi Ayurveda Products USA in the late 1980s. My husband and I were armed with pen and paper to write down his recommendations. He looked at us with respect and kindness, took our pulse and recommended chewing whole coriander seeds after eating. It was a simple, inexpensive, technique to aid digestion and help eliminate toxins without overpowering the liver or the intestinal tract. This combined with transdermal and transmucosal remedies worked wonders for me because I could not the process vitamins in my food and I had trouble eliminating toxins. Immediately chronic fatigue vanished, and I felt happiness.
Since then, SV Ayurveda has always had a place in my life. When I stopped, usually I would develop some kind of health imbalance. This would prompt me to start SV Ayurveda up again with renewed appreciation for its effectiveness. _
In addition, Vaidya Mishra’s father gave him permission to reveal centuries of Ayurvedic family wisdom to anyone who asked! Vaidya Mishra worked hard to set up programs so that everyone can benefit from this protocol even after his passing.
I am grateful to Dr. Melina Takvorian-Mishra who, through Chandika and Adishakti, has continued to maintain Vaidya Mishra’s knowledge and remedies. For years I have found that SV Ayurveda works well to support intellectual curiosity, health, lifestyle, and happiness. Everyday I am grateful that my husband and I had the good fortune to meet and get to know Vaidya Mishra.
– Donalda F
Vaidya R K Mishra brought the full dignity and depth of Ayurveda forward, and at the same time with humility and an open heart. His teachings were practical and he always connected them to prana and the underlying oneness of creation. This he expressed daily by his devotion to Mother Divine.
There was no limit to his ability to problem solve which became evident as he tackled the problems that Modern toxicities from chemicals in our food and cosmetics air and water started to impact the physiology of the people he was treating.
Personally I have been spared the devastating disease of osteoporosis that seriously effected my mother
As I follow his recommendations daily he is always in my heart. – Elizabeth Innes
I am endlessly grateful to Vaidya for awakening in me a profound reverence for the intelligence of Prana — and for teaching me to honor its sacred dance within all life. His wisdom has guided not just my work as a practitioner, but the way I see and move through life. His light continues to illuminate my path, reminding me each day how to live in gentle balance.
How fortunate we are to be so blessed — to have a guru like him, whose wisdom and presence illuminate our lives. Eternally grateful.
“I’m not sure there are words in our language that can fully express my gratitude to Vaidya Mishra and the SVA Lineage of knowledge he shared so freely with us. Whether it is reading a pulse, offering marma therapy, cooking for clients or sharing SVA knowledge, every day includes Vaidya Mishra and SVA. It is by his grace that I continue to share my devotion to the SVA lineage and his teaching with the world.” Pranams.
I am so indebted to Vaidya as a teacher, from all aspects of Dinacharya to his amazing sharing of Prana, mantras from both of his lineages (maternal and paternal), to his lineage teachings on pharmacopeia and to his many sacred remedies to heal, reset and maintain our physiology and our spiritual development ( and all in this manifest world). - Maxine R.
Vaidya Mishra – since I met him has always been what I consider my Vaidya. His health protocols have been and are invaluable for keeping my good health. My husband and I both felt Vaidya Mishra always made us feel at home. He had that ability to put you at ease . He told me once that for some people he always remembered their pulse. He could tell you about the “light of your soul” if you asked or what toothpaste to use that would take a metal taste out of your mouth, what a range! How I eat and my whole lifestyle is based on the knowledge I learned from Vaidya Misha. I am eternally grateful to Vaidya for his profound wisdom he so kindly shared, and to Dr. Melina Takvorian-Mishra for continuing to share his wisdom and his products. Norma C.

Cooling Somagenic Summer Lotions and Oil – 10% Off
Staying “Soma-genic”
despite the
Summer Heat!
Soma is the cooling, nurturing, materializing, vibrational energy of nature that helps us grounded so we can be and grow. It’s the foundation to great health and happiness. Without soma nothing would exist! Without soma, Agni would not exist, because Agni burns, and it burns up soma. Without Soma and Agni there would only be an endless space of vacuous space/ether extending infinitely….
In the summertime, we receive more agni from the sun and so does our environment. The light and heat from the sun makes everything blossom and grow. But it is also very drying. So in the summertime, it is important to balance things out by having lots of soma. For example, you should consume fresh easy to digest delicious somagenic food: fresh juicy sweet fruits, yoghurt, grains, milk, and other prepared foods. However, ironically, in the summertime, Agni goes low because pitta goes high! It’s a beautiful SVA teaching that requires more delving into with Vaidya Mishra. But this is one of the reasons why in high climates, traditionally, such as in South India, the consumption of somagenic foods – and coconut is a great example – is a staple in the diet. However, that is why it’s also heavily spiced! To help in the digestion and absorption of the much needed soma.
This is on the internal side of things. On the external side, it is also important to use somagenic oils, lotions, creams, that help pacify without freezing and therefore clogging the pitta in the skin – bhrajak pitta. The key, as Vaidya always reminded us, is to cool things off without putting out the fire, or Agni. Most of the time this subtle yet central distinction between Agni and pitta is lost in mainstream Ayurveda, and a plethora of problems ensue.
High Pitta people applying bushels of coconut butter on their skin to cool off, or being told to eat watermelon or melon right after meals to “cool off” digestion and/or heartburn in the stomach. What happens is things get worse because in response, the body produces even more pitta to help burn the heaviness off, and this further aggravates the dosha and perpetuates the problem because Agni, the digestive flame (in the stomach and/or in the dhatus/tissues) is already weak or completely off! You can’t start a fire without a flame. High pitta people end up with trapped heat, specially if they are strong by constitution and shleshak kapha kicks in to buffer the extra pitta heat! As you gather, this is big detailed topic of teaching that Vaidya Mishra gave us. But for now, in order to stay cool, you can use one of his many somagenic Summer lotions that will not clog your shrotas and further trap pitta in. They will help cool you off from the outside-in AND also soothe your heart and mind.
Surya Shanti Cream can be used whenever your skin is hot and burning. The Sanskrit word, surya, mean “sun.” And shanti means “pacification.” Surya Shanti Cream pacifies the heat generated by too much exposure to the sun.
This cream is an Ayurvedic sunscreen substitute, with SPF of 15 or 30. Please note it does NOT contain any chemicals for sunscreen approved by the FDA. It balances bhrajaka pitta, the pitta located in the skin. It helps reduce hot burning sensations on the skin, whether caused by internal toxins, like amavisha, or by sunburn, or by touching hot objects. Because it cools bhrajaka pitta so deeply, it can be a good preparation for exposure to the sun’s hot rays.
Surya Shanti Cream has not been tested by the FDA as a sunscreen, and should be used with caution. However, some people are reporting that it is very helpful for preventing sunburn.
We suggest that you test it for yourself. Try it on a section of skin for a moderate exposure time. You may need to keep applying during the day as it is not not waterproof, and sweat may dilute it as well.
Sunlight heats the skin dramatically. If your skin is cooled by this cream prior to sun exposure, your skin’s own natural resistance to sunburn will be stronger. It is also great to apply after sun exposure. Many of our customers have written back saying it pacifies redness caused by sunburn in just a few minutes. We invite you to test it for yourself.
The formula contains no chemicals or preservatives and delivers lots of cooling soma to the skin. It not only cools the skin, but opens the skin’s reception to soma in the environment.
This cream will not block the good things you need from sunlight. Your skin will receive what it needs to make Vitamin D from sunlight without getting imbalanced by the sun’s burning quality. If you are a high pitta type, you may experience burning sensations anytime for no apparent reason. This cream can be useful for restoring balance quickly. You may want to apply it on the neck or even the scalp whenever it starts to burn. It can also be helpful for cooling the body before sleep.
This lotion comes in two variations: regular coolness (Surya Shanti) and strong cooling Surya Maha Shanti.

Ayurveda can be quite a game-changer and help revitalize you during long travels transitioning from one time zone to another. What are your favorite SVA “life-savers”? Carrying your self-care favorites in sample sizes is simply smart when you’re on the road!
While traveling, Vata Dosha becomes easily imbalanced, and you may experience symptoms such as general dryness, anxiety, digestive issues – which can, in turn, lead to crazy cravings and eventually bowel issues such as constipation! Excess movement enhances the air and space qualities in our bodies. Any mobility/movement carries the properties of the air and space elements in the universe. Whenever we are on the move and we don’t balance vata dosha, we will accumulate and vitiate the air and space elements and those will result in: poor digestion, anxiety, overall dryness, etc. There are many things you can do to pacify Vata, or to avert becoming Vata imbalanced, specially when you are traveling. Here are some of our favorite SVA formulations that can help you stay cool and composed during the stress of travels!
Stay healthy and keep germs at bay with one spray? In any place where millions of humans are transiting, like airports, we get exposed to multiple, unfamiliar germs and viruses. Carry a tiny spritzer of “ Tribindu ,” a natural spray that has antibacterial and antiviral properties, and rub it on your hands or spray on your scarf and inhale. This is especially great when you find yourself trapped in an airline seat and can’t get up to wash before the long awaited lunch tray arrives! You can choose between Tribindu with Tulsi (Holy Basil – that carries so many healing properties) or the regular Tribindu (without Holy Basil).
Traveling is very tough on the srotas and nadis resulting in body aches, stiffness, or overall dosha imbalance. In addition, stiff or aggravated channels can cause undue stress and further imbalances. Apply Prana Flow on cervical area, shoulders, lower back, pulse, and feet/legs and breeeeeeaaaathe! Or apply on tight muscles and massage in for an immediate relaxation experience.
Caution: Prana Flow is slightly thermogenic, if this is your first time using, test it on your wrist first before applying on cervical and lower back areas. It’s ok to use on the feet and legs right away.
Experience the health benefits of essential oils and calm your mind within seconds – WITHOUT causing discomfort to those around you. Just unscrew and breath in all the goodness of floral and herb essences and revitalize within moments.
Made with 0% alcohol yet full of the anti-viral and anti-bacterial properties of wholesome ayurvedic herbs and botanicals. Use it on the go in public places to shield and moisturize your hands.
Brushing your teeth never felt so good! 100% all natural ingredients with Fennel or Peppermint Flavors and other ayurvedic plants and herbs to keep your smile fresh and welcoming on the go!
Made with fresh ground turmeric in a base of organic shea butter. Turmeric is traditionally used to support immunity and enhance the body’s glow transdermally. Discover goodness in a bar!
We all need a pick-me-up during the the stress of travels. Experience the bliss of the heart and keep going with this exquisite floral blend: keep your heart lotus open and minimize mental stress. Apply on your wrists and behind ear lobes for a full experience.
Food is a big issue during travels! Now you can order some airport or airplane food and ayurvedize it with Mom’s Masala! Add flavor and keep your stomach happy and balanced with the health benefits of 21 spices all in one!
Nourishing yourself becomes tricky on a full schedule, and yet you need good pranic food to maintain productivity! Try Vaidya Mishra’s protein powder to experience the bounty of Mother Nature: make an instant savory or sweet shake and keep going going going….
Magnesium is an essential element that aids not only in maintaining proper flow in your muscle tissue, attenuating tightness and cramping, but it is a great stress buster, as well as sleep-enhancer. Roll it on your calf muscles or apply on your pulse throughout your flight for an immediate experience.
Called Nasya in Ayurveda, these nasal drops are made of herbalized oil, oleating your mucus membrane to keep it from dryness and protecting the nasal cavity from unhealthy air-born particles. The Gymnema Nasya drops will not only oleate but also protect during travels, keeping the nasal pathways clear from unwanted bugs and accumulation. Otherwise, the Tridoshic Nasya oil is good for all, or also theIdaPingala drops.

Drink Off Pitta Dosha: Full Range Products – 10% Off
Vaidya Mishra recommended dietary and lifestyle changes to protect the body from the scorching heat of the summer. Let’s find out why…
While we all look forward to sunny warmer summer days in anticipation of fun vacation days, the Summer season can actually be a difficult time for the body – and mind – in general. Summer starts when the earth’s axial tilt is closest to the sun and the days get longer than the nights. The Northern Hemisphere receives the highest levels of solar radiation, and is therefore dominated by the fire element – agni. This creates the dehydration period – “adana.”The powerful rays of the sun evaporate the moisture or unctuousness of the earth and in the human physiology – the soma. Agni becomes high and burns off soma – the cooling and grounding element. Lubricating ability – snigdha – decreases. As a result of the heat, we may experience dehydration and excess thirst, which further increases pitta and may specially challenge people with pitta-predominant constitutions, or those who are pitta aggravated.
So one of the most important things to do is to restore soma. Water is a pure soma element. So staying hydrated in the summertime is key. But did you know that many people experience that drinking water does not help? In fact, not only does it not help rehydrate them, but it makes them more thirsty and hot and sluggish? How? Did you know that water is soma – cold and heavy – and also needs to be “digested and absorbed”? That’s why drinking excessive amounts of water will actually not only make you more thirsty, but also more tired and dehydrated…. Thanks to Ayurveda we understand how such a contradictory situation is actually a very natural and “normal” bodily response. The answer is simple: excess water further dilutes the digestive fire not only in the stomach but in the tissues, and will cause lethargy, and excess heat overall.
Ayurveda gives us many details and recommendations for how to rehydrate the body, with water, or water-based drinks. In many ancient cultures with rich herbal healing traditions, adding some herbs and flowers to water, or some lime and even salt, are recommended, to help absorb and retain water and aid in hydration. Below, discover Vaidya Mishra’s Pitta Tea. A blend of cooling plants and ingredients that will help you cool off from the inside-out!
A Sip of Cool Goodness!
You will discover SVA Ayurveda to your rescue with this cup of tea! For when temperatures rise, it is not only our bodies that get hot, but our minds and hearts also get cooked up, and we will find that we have even less stamina to deal with environmental emotional and mental global stress. Ayurveda helps not just with the gross physical body, but is meant to support our entire physiology inside-out.
Here is an all-time best-seller from Vaidya Mishra that has had people from all over the world acknowledging his wisdom and ayurvedic gifts to us. A tea to help us cool down and balance all subdoshas of pitta that encompass the physical as well as emotional and mental aspects. If you’re feeling not only hot and dehydrated but also impatient, irritated, sad and blue for no apparent reason then try Vaidya’s Pitta Tea. It cools off the heat of pitta in all aspects of the body, opens the channels of pachaka pitta (stomach), ranjaka pitta (liver), sadhak pitta (heart), alochak Pitta (eyes), and bhrajaka pitta (skin ) without heating them. It also cleans the burners of the dehagni (cellular metabolism) even as it keeps agni in check.
Make a cup or a pot of this tea and cool it off at room temperature and sip throughout the day – you’ll see why people love it! Most of all it will hydrate you, pacify your emotions, and keep your stress levels in check too. Enjoy!
Rose is an excellent natural remedy that can immediately restore coolness and composure to your entire physiology.
Add 1 tsp to a glass of water, stir, and enjoy!
Making preserve out of rose petals is a very old tradition in many cultures – India, in the Middle East, as well as Europe. This is probably because ancients cultures valued the healing and balancing properties of rose. But none gives us as great insight as Ayurveda. Vaidya Mishra reminded us that rose is a cardio-tonic, or hridya. It calms and balances the vibrational and physical hearts. But that’s not all: one of the most important uses of rose is for the skin. When taken internally, it purifies the sweat of hot acidic toxins that cause harm on the surface of the skin when a person sweats. Regular transdermal use of rose either in poultices or cream formulas cleans the sweat externally, by neutralizing the pH of the sweat, so that when it is released through the skin, it does not cause irritation.
Ultimately rose petals are pitta and vata pacifying. How about the kapha dosha? Does it aggravate kapha? It depends on the preparation. That is why Vaidya has made a special SVA formula, his Rose Petal Preserve is prepared in such a way as to become all Vata, Pitta, and Kapha pacifying. You can also add some freshly ground black pepper when consuming the preserve to make sure it does not aggravate Kapha dosha.

The eyes are an agneya organ… What does that mean?
Our bodies are made of Soma, Agni, Marut – nurturing building energy; transformative fiery energy; and space and air energy. These are the cosmic building blocks of the world as we know it. As the earth moves in relation to the sun, the seasons shift making more or less soma or agni available. As agni increases in the environment in the summertime, all agneya organs in our bodies can go out of balance, making us feel physically overheated but also mentally and emotionally irritable, and uncomfortable – no matter how much cold drinks or ice-cream we may consume!Ā
Here is how you can keep your body and mind cool and composed by following these quick and easy SVA Summer steps:
Ā
Ā
<![if !supportLists]>Ā·Ā Ā Ā Ā <![endif]>Snack on plenty of seasonal juicy fruits
<![if !supportLists]>Ā·Ā Ā Ā Ā <![endif]>Have fresh easy-to-digest protein for lunch
<![if !supportLists]>Ā·Ā Ā Ā Ā <![endif]>Don’t work too hard! Make time for down fun time
<![if !supportLists]>Ā·Ā Ā Ā Ā <![endif]>Make sure to get a daily dose of laughter
<![if !supportLists]>Ā·Ā Ā Ā Ā <![endif]>Try to go to bed no later than 10 pm
Ā
Ayurvedically speaking, you can also keep things in check by adding:Ā
1 drop of DGL Herbal-Memory Nectar drop to your water
along with
1 drop Organic Rose Herbal-Memory Nectar drop
Ā
DGL is great for keeping the liver cool. Rose is great for soothing sadhak pitta, and keeping rakta cool as well.Ā
Ā
DGL Transdermal cream on the liver at night before bed will cool things off and make sure our greatest agneya organ, the liver, gets support to shield itself from the summer heat.Ā
Ā
Don’t forget, the Amla berry is your best friend – it pacifies and balances ALL 5 PITTA SUBDOSHAS! Vaidya’s signature Wild Amla or Maha Wild Amla comes in tablet or drops format. Add these to your daily regimen. Make sure not to take them after 4pm as they are known to increase energy and they make keep you up later than you want at night!Ā
Ā
As a woman, make the right choice NOT to use eyeliners and eye make-up that contains chemicals. You can still outline and highlight the beautify of your eyes by using Vaidya’s 100% natural ayurvedic plant based eyeliner.
Last but not least, remember that rose is your best in the hot long summer days. Add more roses to your life any way you can, you will only be happier for it!Ā
Vaidya Mishra was personally extremely pleased with his eyedrops!Ā As almost every product he formulated has a story behind it, these drops were made for a dear friend who was having constant dry eyes and sties. Nothing he had tried was helping or giving him relief. He was desperate. He came to see Vaidya Mishra, and Vaidya formulated these drops for him and gave him a bottle.Ā He had immediate relief! The drops were then sent out to other friends and colleagues and received hands-down positive feedback. Upon that, Vaidya decided to make these drops available to all his SVA followers. The drops help cool off and pacify alochaka pitta and instantly restore freshness to tired eyes. So what’s in these drops?
The main ingredient is a seed calledĀ “Chakchusya.”Ā Ā ChakchuĀ in Sanskrit means āeyeā.Ā Ā AyushaĀ means āhealthy life spanā.Ā Thus,Ā chakchusyaĀ (chakchu + ayusha) means āwhich enhances the health and longevity of the eyes.’Ā
In addition, Vaidya’s drops contain distilled organic rose petals to support chakchusya.Ā This synergy makes for an even more effective formula, because rose is the best ingredient to simultaneously pacify alochak pitta, vyana vata, sadhak pitta, and prana vata (read more aboutĀ Ā Rose ā The Queen of Flowers).
Ā
What are the Ayurvedic Benefits ofĀ Soma NetraĀ Eye Drops with Organic Rose?

ā¢Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Immediately soothes and calms the eyes
ā¢Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Helps the eyes flush out accumulated environmental physical and vibrational toxins
To summarize the verse, it says that: this seed (cakį¹£uį¹£yÄ) cools the eyes, helps remove inner and outer toxins, and gives clarity to the vision.

Are you poisoning yourself – daily transdermally – through the soap, shampoo, and body wash you use? Commercial soaps and cleaning products use chemical ingredients such as: synthetic scents and c0lors, additives, preservatives – that are extremely toxic, and even more so because we use them daily.
Our skin is the largest ORGAN of our body. It is a living, “breathing,” organic complex structure made up of different tissues that work together to perform specific functions. It not only covers the entire surface of the body, it also protects the body from external harm such as: UV and other radiation; injury; and infections. The skin regulates our body temperature and adapts it to the environment. It also enables the senses of touch and the experience of pleasure or pain, and pressure.Ā We receive more environmental information through our skin than any other sense organ! But the reverse is also true! Did you know that a true and skilled vaidya – one who knows how to harness the laws of nature – can also tell A LOT about your overall health just by looking at your skin? Perhaps that is why Vaidya’s ancestors were renowned skin experts. They were experts in healing ALL conditions plus ALL skin conditions. That is why Lord Krishna invited their family over to India to cure his son Shambh’s leprosy. When they succeeded he asked them to stay.
We learn from their tradition that synthetic chemicals that are used in modern cleaning products are considered a special kind of toxin called “garavisha” – slow poison. You may not experience discomfort immediately, they work slowly and silently penetrating and damaging the different layers of the skin and eventually going deeper into the blood and deeper tissues.
What’s the most immediate thing that happens when you use chemical synthetic cleansers? You deplete the friendly bacteria of your skin. The first thing you may experience is dryness: toxic chemical products strip your skin of its natural oil balance, dry it out, depopulating the colonies of friendly bacteria. The product may contain synthetic oils and chemical elements to compensate for this but the bacteria still die off. After this initial damage, things go deeper. Chemical synthetic products loaded with colors, preservatives, and fragrances – are transdermally instantly absorbed into your blood stream and delivered and circulated to your entire physiology within seconds!
The majority of soaps on the market carry toxic foaming agents (SLS), or preservatives (Parabens), or many more coloring and aromatizing synthetic chemicals that deplete the natural layers of the skin with regular use.
Ā
The skin is governed by 3 ayurvedic principles: shleshak kapha, vyana vata, and bhrajak pitta. Shleshak kapha helps maintain moisture levels and keep the skin lubricated; Vyana vata keeps the balance of friendly bacteria and nutrients of the skin well distributed; and Bhrajak pitta – the agneya or metabolic principle – protects the skin by warding off unwanted particles and molecules from entering and going into the blood stream, while it invites and takes in all good molecules that are applied on the skin. Just like we take extra measures not to imbalance the 3 doshas in our stomach or whole body and mind, just so we need to pay attention and take care of not aggravating the doshas governing the skin. When you use soaps and cleaning products with chemicals, you disrupt the balance established by these 3 ayurvedic one after another, and you may eventually develop chronic skin imbalances. For example, regular soap bars dry your skin – this means shleshak kapha goes low. When Shelshak kapha is off, then vyana vata goes high automatically, and this eventually brings down bhrajak pitta – the skin loses its intelligence as to what to absorb and what to reject. Using a drying synthetic soap bar for prolonged periods of time may eventually invite deeper imbalances.
Ā
Vaidyaās unique soaps are not only made with the best organic Shea Butter, packed with the goodness of flower and plant essences, to achieve optimal therapeutic benefits, but they are also aroma therapeutic! If you need to help slow down your physiology at night before bed, use the Soma Nidra Soap bar; if you are feeling sad and out of joints, use the Ashoka or Rose soap; if you need to detox, then use the Turmeric or Detox soap… There are so many wonderful soaps to discover hereAND bath pouches that will cool you off inside-out and restore you to your calm and composed self despite the Summer heat!

We are living in inordinately stressful times! Even when we have a good daily routine and diet, the environment around us is full of stress and impacts our bodies, hearts, and minds! Ayurveda offers us so many potent herbs and remedies to help remedy the deleterious effects of stress. Ashwagandha is one of such potent herbs, and very popular nowadays; however, there is a big problem: because many who take it orally come to experience an increase in their stress levels! How can that be? Here is the SVA understanding and explanation, and how Vaidya Mishra addressed the “side-effects” – namaste!
ASHWAGANDHA:
How
NOT
to Use It – & Why!
Ā
Ashwagandha is one of the most widely used herbs in all of Ayurveda since it is one of the best herbs to help you deal with stress, which is rampant nowadays. However, the ancient doctors said that since they couldnāt foresee what would happen in the future they were depending on the future doctors of Ayurveda to make the necessary changes always adhering to the core principles outlined in the ancient texts.Ā
Let me first explain some facts about Ashwagandha and then Iāll show you some changes which need to be made regarding its use in this modern era.
Ashwagandha (Withania Somnifera) is considered an adaptogenic herb because it helps you to adapt to stress. One way of saying this is that when weāre under stress our adrenal glands dump a lot of cortisol into our bloodstream. Cortisol has so many side effects: it can decrease the thyroid gland function, it can flush magnesium out of your body increasing the risk of panic attacks and irregular heartbeats, it can make you gain weight in the face and abdomen, can cause high blood pressure, and can pretty much wreak havoc all around the body.
The good news is that Ashwagandha prevents the release of too much cortisol when weāre stressed, preventing all these side effects and helping us to remain balanced as we go through the stressful situations.
The word āAshwagandhaā means āwhich smells like a horse.ā It is felt that the ancient doctors were implying here that Ashwagandha gives you some of the characteristic strength of the horse, and did not mean that you would walk around smelling like a horse. Horses are known to run in races, running faster and faster to win the race. Thus it makes you like a horse in terms of giving you more physical and mental stamina to perform your best in life. When you have this kind of strength and stability you will be more successful in winning your races throughout your life.
“I use Ashwagandha a lot in my practice to support and strengthen the thyroid gland. It protects it from the side effects of the cortisol that we release when weāre under stress.”
Many people might not know this but whenever we see patients with Vitiligo we usually see weakness of the thyroid gland at the same time. And Ashwagandha has a secondary use to treat vitiligo as well. Vitiligo is an autoimmune disease where the bodyās immune system attacks the melanin or the pigment cells of the skin, leaving white patches around the body. Stress creates these autoimmune toxins and again Ashwagandha is the best herb for dealing with stress. As a sidetone here we of course use the primary herbs used to treat Vitiligo in my practice, but Ashwagandha is recommended as an adjunct herb as well.
But hereās the caveat:Ā In Ayurveda we look at what happens after the herb comes into the body, which is different from here in the West where we just look at the action of the herb.Ā It turns out that Ashwagandha pacifies Vata and Kapha, both of which create coldness in the body. Ashwagandhaās effects on the body are that it is ushna or hot. If you have more pitta in the body then this herb will aggravate the inherent heat that is already built up in your body.Ā
In addition, its virya or overall property is hot and acidic and its vipak or post digestive effect is pungent. So this herb then can generate significant amounts of heat in the body.
Now in this day and age, what the ancient doctors couldnāt have foreseen is that our liver and blood are holding on to many environmental toxins, pharmaceuticals, and toxins from processed foods, all of which create heat in the body. So nowadays we have to be very careful with herbs used in Ayurveda such as Ashwagandha which are very hot in nature and can heat up the stomach, the liver, the skin, all of which are areas governed by Pitta dosha.
But my teacher and mentor Vaidya Rama Kant Mishra figured out a way to get herbs like Ashwagandha into people who already have a lot of heat or Pitta aggravation in their bodies. He developed two methods of taking the herbs using just the intelligence of what the herb does leaving behind the physical crude herb. He made herbal memory nectar drops and transdermal creams, neither of which will heat up the body since the side effects of the hot herb will not be there ā only what is known as the prabhava, or the effect of what that herb does remains and goes immediately into all the gaps and cellular system of the body without going through the digestive tract, heating up the liver and stomach along the way.
I mention this here as a cautionary note. Everything we swallow has to be processed by the liver and again, in modern times just about every patient I see has too much heat circulating in the liver due to all the hot toxins being filtered by the liver everyday.Ā
This means that in about 90% of the patients that I see who are taking the crude herb, which means the tablet or powder or tea of Ashwagandha, I usually take them off that and use our vibrational versions.
Ā
This is especially the case when treating autoimmune diseases since one of the many contributing factors we see with autoimmune diseases is overheating of the liver.Ā
So whenever I have a patient who has Hashimotoās, an autoimmune disease of the thyroid gland, I immediately take them off the crude herb of Ashwagandha onto our transdermal creams or herbal memory nectar drops. Otherwise the crude herb will flare up the heat in their liver and actually work against their attempts to heal the autoimmune disease.
So please keep this in mind about Ashwagandha. Yes, sooner or later most of us will need it to help us run all the races we encounter in this modern life, but most of us will not be candidates for the tablets and teas of Ashwagandha which will definitely heat up the liver, stomach, blood and the other areas commonly affected by heat.
Ā

Dr. Marianne Teitelbaum

The Story of a Rishi and a Princess…
It all starts with an ancient tale! The intriguing story of Rishi Chyawan is documented in the ancient epic tale of India, the Mahabharata. Rishi Chyawan was a great seer. He was fully enlightened and thus carried no desires in his heart, except for union with the cosmic divine. It is said that he sat immobile, his senses fully retracted into the silent self-referral bliss of meditation, for numerous years, until one day, Sukanya, the young and beautiful daughter of King Sharyati, found him and accidentally awoke him from his yogic trance. Long story short – the aging rishi and the young princess were soon wed. However, their conjugal bliss was overshadowed by the rishi’s old ascetic body.
It is then told that the celestial twin physicians, the Ashvinis, came to the rishi’s help. Physicians to the gods, they had garnered the entirety of Ayurvedic knowledge for the benefit of mankind and the celestial realm. They prepared a mixture that contained the best of what Mother Nature offered in terms of divine healing, balancing, and rejuvenating altogether 52 herbs, and presented it to Rishi Chyawan. Rishi Chyawan ate it, and it restored his body to its original youthful glow and functionality in no time! And the rishi and the princess lived happily ever after….
The recipe became known as Chyawan’s Prash, or the herbal mixture of Chyawan, renowned for its tonic and rejuvenative powers.
Vaidya’s Story
“The sweet taste and rich aroma of home-made chyawanprash infuses my early childhood memories spent in the village of Vaidyachak (“Vaidya’s village”) in Jharkand, NorthEast India. My father used to prepare Chyawanprash for our family. Years later, when I studied Ayurveda formally and learnt of the countless benefits of all the herbs that go into the Chyawanprash formula, I had the desire to share it with all my ayurvedic patients, specially after moving to the West. That’s how, several years ago, I initiated the process of sourcing and gathering the best quality wild-crafted herbs that would go into the preparation. I wanted to make sure that I incorporated every single ingredient that was mentioned in the original formula without compromise of quality. But it was hard. Many of the herbs are very hard to source, so many companies make the paste without all 52 ingredients. The formula will still work but not the same way…
After a long search, everything came together, and I was able to source ALL the herbs in the quality required and I put together this “avaleha,” or “liquid preserve,” just the way my father used to make it! I am very happy to say it smells and tastes just as good as I remember it!”
How does it work?
Chyawanprash is Ayurveda’s gift to us. It brings together the best of all the “divyaushadhi,” or divine herbs, in a recipe that is not only balancing, but is a delicious addition to daily diet. It’s no accident that it is considered India’s national tonic!
The preparation of these 52 herbs and plants involves seven stages and is complex because the herbs that are used have different properties that need to be prepared in distinct separate steps before being combined together, in order to get the full benefit. The original creators of this formula, the Ashwin Gods, taught the way of infusing the different groups of herbs together, based on how they can be categorized property-wise. The herbs that go into the mixture can be grouped into three:
rasayana or rejuvenative herbs
detoxifying and cleansing herbs
immuno-modulatory herbs
Deriving the lipid and water soluble fractions of these herbs, while infusing their balancing properties into the base of the amla berry paste (amalaki) is thus a challenging process that has to go through different time-sensitive steps. But when it is done properly, when the powerful molecules have been duly prepared and mixed in with the organic sugar and honey, the formulation is fully potent and active, benefiting the body as soon as it touches the oral mucosa. Once in the stomach, it detoxifies traveling through the gaps of the tissues and nourishing all the aspects of the physiology.
Chyawanprash is a daily tonic that is good for all age groups all the time – except infants and children age 5 and under. The original formula contains ghee, cane sugar, and honey. Please note that the addition of ghee, honey, and sugar is necessary as they help coat the herbal molecules and deliver them to the deeper tissues. They are added as balancing ingredients because the original formula is very potent with its concentrated content of herbs and amla. They are not flavoring agents. And since they are consumed in conjunction with the dozens of herbs that are in the formula, they body is able to process and metabolize them fully. You will not make ama from the ghee, the sugar, or the honey – no one should experience discomfort or imbalance from the sugar and fat content. However, if you have fat and sugar sensitivities or prefer to avoid consuming either or both, I have put together a Chyawanprash Syrup that contains no added fat (ghee) and no added sugar (honey or raw can sugar). For those who have concerns consuming fat and/or sugar, this will be the ideal way to get the rejuvenative benefit of all the rasayana and other herbs that are part of the original formula.
