Soy, Thyroid, and Women’s Hormonal Health

Dr. Marianne Teitelbaum explains: “This patient presented to our office for large growths on her breasts.  Her Ob-Gyn had been monitoring their growth for a few years using mammograms in case they turned into cancer.  Modern medicine thinks of prevention of breast cancer only in terms of frequent mammograms — they keep checking the breasts and if they find cancer, they remove it via lumpectomy, mastectomy and may give radiation and/or chemotherapy.
However, no attention is made on trying to reverse the situation — or to prevent the cancer from coming.  This case history is an excellent example of exactly why it is so important to first find the underlying cause of the problem.  In this case, a thorough examination of her diet revealed the patient was eating lots of soy products — tofu, soy milk, and edamame.  Soy has several problems associated with it:  first, the isoflavones in the soy depress the thyroid gland.  This patient had hormonal swings, yet her thyroid studies (bloodwork) came back normal — this is typical of all the thyroid patients I see.  The thyroid might not be functioning optimally, but it usually won’t be reflected in bloodwork.  However, even a small malfunction of the thyroid creates full-blown thyroid symptoms — constipation, cold hands and feet, hair falling, weight gain, lethargy.
Second, the soy has “unintelligent” estrogen in it.  The intelligent estrogen your body produces creates intelligent growth in the breasts and hips after puberty.  However, an unintelligent estrogen would cause growths such as cysts and tumors, even malignant ones.
And finally, the fat in the soybean is too dense to cross the cell wall, thus clogging the channels.
So first, we stopped the soy and cleaned up the rest of her diet (she was also eating the nightshade vegetables, which shrink the channels).  We then initiated some gentle detox once the channels opened and gave her the herbs to shrink the glandular growths.  And unlike pharmaceuticals, which have side effects, the herbs have side benefits, which we see all the time.  Thus, her large growth on her finger also went away as a result of treating the whole body.
Her hormonal symptoms normalized.  We gave her herbs to support her thyroid and some to help her hair to stop falling out — and now everything has stabilized.”

Detox Talk at the Inaugural SVA Cafe

For Vaidya’s very first SVA Cafe, we had attendees over the phone, through skype, and in person. It was a wonderful first event, with the topic of Detox coinciding with the first day of Spring. Vaidya discussed the general lines of SVA Detox on the occasion of the publication of his Detox Manual with Recipes. He highlighted the importance of identifying the types of toxins you are targeting on evacuating, then confirming the channels that you will detox through, and only then proceeding, in order to have optimal detox.  After Vaidya’s talk, we held a question and answer session for all attendees and then headed
out to have a SVA break with delicious goodies made in-house. Thank you Daria for the lovely cookies, and thank you Vaidya for the delicious sprouted Mung salads, sweet and savory “poha” recipes, and so much more!

Attendees who were not familiar with Vaidya’s SVA food items got to savor all the SVA chutneys and preserves, as well as Mum’s Masala and Soma Salt. Attendees got to share news and views with each other as well as chat with Vaidya Mishra directly in a laid-back joyful atmosphere. If you were unable to attend and want to catch up on Vaidya Mishra’s talk, no worries, we have now posted it on his website and you may download it for free anytime HERE.
We are already looking forward to our next SVA Cafe, on April 17, 2014. Our theme for the next Cafe will be
SVA Marma and Samadhi. We will discuss what Samadhi is according to Ayurveda, a very concrete and real experience of inner bliss and total physiological rest that results in great calm and renewal. We will also have a practicum and use specific SVA formulations on specific marma points to garner the experience of Samadhi then and there. Mark your calendars for the third Thursday of next month, April 17, 2014, and join us from 3-6pm at Vaidya Mishra’s Prana Center.
Our team is looking forward to welcoming you and sharing the bliss!

Side effects of Levoquin, and antibiotic drug, with Herbert Mandell, M.D.

Dr Marianne Teitealbaum says: “I do phone consultations with patients all around the U.S., Canada and other countries everyday. For several months I was getting calls from patients in tears, hysterically crying, after taking this antibiotic called Levoquin.  Then I finally had this patient come in person with the same symptoms.  I thought I would share this case history with you in case you have suffered after taking it, or to prevent you from ever taking this antibiotic in the first place.  Cipro is in the same classification of this antibiotic and for years I have been helping people after they got off Cipro. However, Levoquin is even more dangerous.  Dr. Mandell, my patient on this video, explained to me that Levoquin, once it gets inside your body, has the capability of going very deep into the cells — even into the DNA and can consequently rupture all the tendons in your body.  This is what happened in his case, and in so many other patients around the country after using this drug.Luckily, we have all the herbs to repair the damage to the friendly bacteria, the overheating in the liver, and our wonderful herb guduchi to go deep to do the cellular detox needed in a case such as this.  We also have great herbs for healing the joints and the tendons and muscles.  When Dr. Mandell first presented to our office on January 20, 2014, he was hobbling on a cane.  Once I put him on the Guduchi, he immediately developed a rash over his tendons in his hands, the site of the first symptom, and his hands from that point on started to get better.By February 10th he was walking a little lighter on his cane.  And when I saw him on February 24, 2014, only one month from starting his protocol, he was able to walk without the cane!  I saw him again today and he feels his tendons are 100% better, which is remarkable, since the doctors thought it would take about 6 months — it took us just two months! Then he asked me if I could possibly help him with his idiopathic (cause unknown) neuropathy in his feet — he said he is not diabetic, which is the usual cause of neuropathy.  I then asked him if he ever took statin drugs to lower his cholesterol, to which he replied, “Yes, for years!  And I always thought they might have caused the neuropathy.”
He is correct in this assumption — I have taken care countless cases of idiopathic neuropathy caused by the statin drugs — the nerve tissue is made of cholesterol and these drugs are drying up the delicate nerve tissue and the myelin sheath surrounding the nerve tissue.   So today I put him on our remedies for healing the nerve tissue and the myelin sheath.  Stay tuned for that case history! And thank you Vaidya Mishra for getting us the herbs, some of them quite rare and hard to find, to make it easy for us doctors in the field to help so many patients with all their myriad symptoms.”Dr. Marianne Teitelbaum

A Young Man’s Testimonial on Acne and Ulcerative Colitis

Dr. Teitelbaum says: “This testimonial showcases the wonderful work we are doing with ulcerative colitis. We have so many patients who are making great strides with this auto-immune inflammatory bowel disease. While the underlying cause in each case could be different, everyone is doing extremely well. We own our success to the great formulations Vaidya Mishra has made for these patients.

In this case, this teenage boy was taking antibiotics for two years for his acne. They created the perfect storm: auto-immune diseases come from various reasons, but especially 1)lack of friendly bacteria in the gut and 2) overheating in the liver. When these two imbalances occur, they set the stage for auto-immune reactions. And antibiotics create both conditions.

First, the friendly bacteria in the gut keep the immune system intelligent — they are the basis for a smooth-functioning immune response where your immune system knows to attack invading viruses, bacteria, and other pathogens, but it has the intelligence to not attack the body (which is what happens in an auto-immune disease). So first we had to teach him how to regrow his friendly bacteria (antibiotics destroy these good bacteria at the same time they are attacking the bad bacteria), and then we gave him dietary guidelines and the herbs to help cool the liver.

Second, antibiotics overheat the liver. Everything you swallow goes through the liver. The antibiotic chemical is acidic in nature and creates a lot of acid toxins in the liver, creating a situation of excess liver heat.

This combination of lack of friendly bacteria combined with a hot liver pushes the immune system to over-respond and start attacking the body.

So, in this case, he went off the antibiotics, we treated his bowel with our good friendly bacteria protocol,we healed the lining of the gut, cooled down the liver — and the auto-iimmune reaction stopped.

This was a wonderful case history — the boy was worried about going off to college with ulcerative colitis and all the pain and diahrrea it can cause. The good news is by the time he went to college, his ulcerative colitis had been gone for about 2 years — and the best part of it all — we were able to successfully treat his acne with our Semal Plus herbal protocol — his acne cleared up without the devastating side effects to his immune system.”

Rash and Itch during Detox

Dear Vaidya Mishra,

Last Spring, I followed your SVA Home Detox program by using your DVD. I loved it. Everything went well, I felt lighter, clearer in my mind and heart. However, I did have a small problem and I am wondering about it. During detox, particularly on the weekends, my back, my belly,detox1 detox1calf muscles and sometimes my thighs would develop an uncontrollable itch. When I would scratch, I would feel there was heat under the skin. I was doing abhyanga with SVA Pitta and Magnesium oil in the mornings and that would help it. But I wondered whether I shouldn’t just have applied coconut oil to cool things off? This year, I want to do your detox again , but I am afraid that the itch may come back and perhaps be worse. Why did I develop that itch and what should I do if it reappears again?

With gratitude, Mary K.

Dear Mary: in general, developing an itch or a rash during detox is actually not a bad sign! All it means is that transdermal detox2detox is happening: old amavisha and garavisha is being evacuated through your skin, as you know our skin is our largest detox organ. You developed a rash or itch because the detox protocol you were following unclogged your channels and toxins got evacuated through the skin. But what happens is when hot acidic inflammatory toxins come out through the skin, they aggravate the bhrajak pitta of the skin. This is the pitta subdosha that governs the skin and keeps the skin balanced and cool. When toxins imbalance the environment of the skin, then bhrajak pitta increases and you develop a rash. In addition, the skin is also governed by vyana vata. This vata subdosha supports the circulation of nutrients and moisture to the skin. When it gets imbalanced due to the presence of hot acidic toxins then the skin becomes dry and/or flaky, losing its luster and elasticity.

It is possible that you may develop a rash again this year during detox but here is what you can do. Address the toxins through the same path they are getting evacuated from, that is: transdermally. I have put together bath pouches for safe home use called Shodhana for Self Detox detox3 and Rasayana.  Use the Shodhana  pouches 3 days in a row, and then use the Rasayana pouches 3 days in a row. In this kind of situation, the detox bath pouches will help extract the toxins and your rash should be minimal – if any at all. You can then apply SVA Surya Shanti or Surya MahaShanti. These creams are made with sandalwood and are very cooling and nurturing to the skin. They will soothe it without clogging. They particularly help with rash conditions or situations. I do not recommend applying coconut oil because that can have the counter effect – coconut is heavy and cold and it can freeze your channels and counter the detox process.

Alternately, after your bath, you can also apply a thin layer of the SVA Pitta Massage oil with Magnesium and leave it on if you live in a warm climate. If you leave in a cooler climate, it is best to clean it off with a paper towel after a few minutes. Your skin will have received the nourishment and it should help abate your rash, specially after the bath detox. Please consider perusing my new Home Detox Manual as it has been revised and may offer you some additional helpful details. You can also add the Garavisha Tea to your protocol to help redirect the toxins to get evacuated through the urinary tract rather than the skin. Thank you.

Garavisha Tea for Xenobiotics

What is Garavisha tea?

Gar(a) means “slow” and vish(a) means poison. Garavisha is a slow poison, a substance whose toxic action reveals itself after an extended period of time. In ancient times, the ayurvedic healers coined this term to refer specifically to slow poisons external to the body, such as does carried by some animals and insects. SVA extends the original definition of garavisha from the ayurvedic shastras or texts to encompass our modern concept of xenobiotics – from xenos (Greek for foreign) and bio (living organism). Garavisha, as Vaidya Mishra explains, can help us deal with the modern phenomenon of xenobiotic toxicity or chemical compounds that are foreign to our bodies, not produced by our own bodies, and thus externally acquired. Our bodies do not produce garavisha. Rather garavisha toxins enter our bodies from the environment. Garavisha is thus an exogenous toxin, a poisonous substance that enters our body from outside. For example: drugs (medicinal or recreational); environmental compounds or pollutants such as synthetic pesticides, herbicides; industrial pollutants and preservatives that are nowadays commonly used in personal care products such as SLS (Sodium Laurel Sulfate as a foaming agent); Parabens (a preservative); synethetic scents, flavors, and coloring agents; etc. All these are not found in nature, but are rather lab manufactured and derived.

Xenobiotics enter our body insidiously, silently, without our being aware or feeling anything. They enter our bodies when we inhale toxiccleaners fumes; or they transdermally crossing our blood barrier when we apply them on our skin or touch them; alternatively, they result from the oral consumption of synthetic chemical products or products that contain synthetic elements.

Garavisha molecules are too small and foreign for the immune system to process them, so they get to sit around in the physiology and cause slow but long term damage on a micro-cellular level, eventually resulting in chronic ill-health.

detox3But you do not need to wait to get sick in order to detox garavisha. SV Ayurveda recommends safe and effective daily detox for optimal well-being. This herbal tea specially formulated by Vaidya Mishra will help bind and evacuate toxic molecules of garavisha that we willy-nilly ingest since we are exposed to xenobiotic molecules in so many aspects of our daily lives from personal care products (soaps, toothpaste, shampoo, perfumes, hair dyes, shaving products, laundry detergents, dishwasher liquids, general cleaning products, chemicals and dyes in our transportation systems or the environment we work in, not to mention preservatives in our food, etc).

In this formula, Guduchi will re-establish molecular intelligence and support the body to identify and eliminate toxic micro-molecules; Indian sarsaparilla will eliminate the fat soluble toxins by supporting the intelligent functioning of the fat metabolism; Neem will activate the detox process and support the immune system; Basil will support the body’s immunity to help ward-off any detox crises and nourish tissues supporting the production of ojas – the finest substances of post-digestion that nourishes the neutro-transmitters ; Marshmallow root will lubricate the channels to protect from the toxins, as it also coats the toxins to contain their reactivity while they are evacuated through our detox pathways; Peppermint will help maintain the channels open so as to facilitate toxic evacuation; Slippery elm will  supply lubrication for the channels as well as support the growth of friendly bacteria to help strengthen immunity; Coriander will help bind and eliminate virulent toxins such as mercury, lead, arsenic, and more; Rose will maintain the physiology cool and balanced during the detox process of the insidious and highly toxic garavisha waste.

For optimal results, it is best to use this tea in conjunction with the SVA Diet, and/or prep your physiology by stopping the intake of toxic substances or food, or exposure to a toxic environment before initiating detox. For more information on the SVA diet, go to: www.vaidyamishra.com

Ingredients: Vaidya Mishra’s proprietary blend with Guduchi, Neem, Indian Sarsaparilla, Basile, Slippery Elm, Marshmallow root, Peppermint, Coriander, and Rose.

Directions: Use ½ tsp of tea per cup. Bring to a gentle boil, filter and drink. Drink up to 2 cups a day, one morning and one evening. If you are already drinking any other personal herbal tea, give 1-2 hours distance before consuming this tea. Or use as directed by your SVA expert.

Dr.Teitelbaum on the SVA Home Detox Manual

Dr.Teitelbaum on the
SVA Home Detox Manual

There is nothing more precious than experiencing radiant health. How can we enjoy our birthright – higher states of consciousness and the bliss that lies latent in every cell in our bodies – if we are feeling sick, tired, depressed and our physical bodies are laden with toxins?

But robust health is a rare commodity these days, as we fall victim to the temptations of eating unhealthy processed foods, go to bed late and then just pop pills for the ailments that will eventually arise from this type of lifestyle.

There is a way out however, and it is totally within your reach. The key to good health is 3-fold: eat healthy, keep a good daily routine, (going to bed early and waking up early), and learn correct detoxification.

When I tell patients they need to do these 3 things in order to regain their health, they automatically start telling me of the cleanse they just finished – they either did a maple syrup-cayenne pepper cleanse, or a series of colonics or a liver cleanse using milk thistle. Many of them have taken harsh herbal laxatives such as cascara sagrada and senna. Yet, even though they have just finished their cleanse they are not only still highly symptomatic, but more often than not, they are in worse shape than before they started their cleanses.

So here we have a beautiful booklet by Vaidya Rama Kant Mishra, where he systematically and sequentially unfolds the knowledge of his divine family lineage, Shakha Vansiya Ayurveda (SVA for short).

As you read through the pages, you will be struck by the attention to detail Vaidya Mishra brings to whatever he does. He describes everything you need to know about detoxification: the 4 types of toxins and where they come from, a thorough discussion of the physical and vibrational channels and the role they play in the detox process. Then he describes in even greater detail the actual cleanses – keeping in mind that we not only want to pull out the toxins, but we want to direct them to the bowel and kidneys for evacuation and we also want to bind them while waiting for evacuation from these areas so they do not start roaming and creating havoc somewhere else in the body. And while doing all this, we have to keep the liver cool so the patient doesn’t develop rashes on the skin or develop loose bowel movements.

Having taken thousands of patients through this cleansing process, paying attention to these details as the patients do their cleanses, I can tell you this type of detox works extremely well – and best of all it is fairly easy and safe to do.

Many times, a patient will come up to me and ask me if there is a cure for cancer. This is your “cure” right here, in the pages of this booklet. And it turns out that the cure for not only cancer, but any serious disease you can think of, comes in its prevention – again, by eating healthy, going to bed early and learning correct simple daily detoxification procedures.

I see thousands of patients each year. And I see lots of suffering. But I can tell you honestly and with strong conviction: the suffering can be alleviated – it is within your reach – and you, like all of my patients can do this – you will be amazed at how quickly your health returns, thanks to the guidance and teachings of Vaidya Mishra and his millennial healing family lineage.

Vaidya’s introduction to SVA Home-Detox Manual

The accumulation of toxins in the body is a naturally occurring phenomenon. The body produces waste-products on a daily basis. These are known as mala-s in Ayurveda: feces, urine, sweat, etc. It is only when these waste-products are allowed to linger, that they become toxic. This is one source of endogenous or internal toxic build-up.

Another source of internal toxins comes from poor digestion. Poor digestion can result from poor dietary habits: eating on the run; eating in front of the TV; eating indigestible food; overeating; etc. Toxins made from poorly digested food matter are known as ama. If we do not evacuate ama, if we let it stay in our bodies, it becomes virulent, more acidic and toxic in nature, and it turns into amavisha- a highly reactive type of toxin.

But, nowadays, exogenous or externally induced toxins are just as  harmful as endogenous toxins. The environment we live in can be highly toxic, starting with the personal care products we use – shampoo, deodorant, etc; to house-cleaning products; preservatives and chemicals used in dyes; clothing; furniture; etc. Another kind of exogenous toxicity that affects our overall health has to do with EMF overload from cell-phones, microwaves, and the overuse of electric devices such as computers, etc.

Proper detox is essential for long-term health and happiness. But proper detox depends on many factors, not just switching to a better diet and exercising! If your detox pathways are damaged or blocked; if the season is not right for detox; or you are currently going through emotional or mental stress; then you may dislodge your toxins without properly evacuating them and they will most likely end up roaming around and damaging organs, organ systems, or even the cellular intelligence of your body, resulting in severe imbalances and eventually incurable chronic conditions.

In this book, I cover all possible types of toxins present in our modern world. You will learn how there are different types of toxins that carry a different solubility based on their own chemical composition. You will then see how you can evacuate toxins based on their make-up or type, and which channels or detox pathways to use to eliminate specific toxins in an easy, safe, and effective way. You will also learn how it is not enough to detox, but it is very important to nourish: when you detox you eliminate toxic waste that was occupying space. You need to replace that toxic waste that was eliminated by nurturing molecules or particles. Detox and rejuvenation are the 2 strokes of one protocol. Neither is complete without the other.

The self-detox protocol outlined in this book has been practically applied by many SVA practitioners and followers across the United States and Canada, successfully, for the past several years. Now you can also learn how to do your own home-detox, minimize the build-up of future toxic waste, and rejuvenate!
