This week we celebrate Vaidya Mishra! We are ever so grateful for the unparalleled knowledge of Shaka Vanshiya Ayurveda he generously shared with us, and the unique pranic formulations he specifically created to address modern-day ailments, specifically here in the west, restoring bliss and balance into our lives.
Wednesday July 29th is Guru Purnima. In the vedic tradition, all the planets carry and project and impact on our lives. The moon is associated with the mind and emotions. The full moon (purnima) associated with the teacher (guru). Just as the full moon shines softly yet beautifully bright, dispelling the darkness of the night, the guru/teacher illumines our minds and dispels the darkness of our ignorance and ends our suffering. It is traditional to acknowledge and offer gratitude to the teacher on this day.
In addition, we also celebrate Vaidya Mishra’s birthday – August 5!
In the Guru Gītā in the Skanda Purāna, there is a verse that says:
गुरुर्ब्रह्मगुरुर्विष्णुःगुरुर्देवोमहेश्वरः।
गुरुःसाक्षात्परंब्रह्मतस्मैश्रीगुरवेनमः॥
The Guru is the creator – Brahmā; the Guru is the sustainer – Viṣṇu; the Guru is the destroyer/transformer – Śiva. The Guru is the Supreme Reality itself. To that revered Guru, I bow down in gratitude.
To our revered ayurvedic Guru, who continues to enrich our lives with the cosmic knowledge of SV Ayurveda, and helps us restore and maintain bliss and balance daily, we bow down in great gratitude.
